Do intermodal train drivers drive around in pairs or is there someone in the cab with the driver?

so many conflicting ideas I think my brain is melting. :| hopefully some clarity in the form of a hr post on this forum may be on its way... (happened on the heavy haul feed)

Hi, am I right in thinking intermodal driving is more regular shift patterns than HH and does anyone have a rough idea how this works (particularly from Crewe), thanks.

Does anyone have any idea's why the job specification is vague in terms of shifts, locations and benefits?

That sounds like heavy haul pay rate. pretty sure intermodal and heavy haul are on different salaries (intermodal is around 5k less)

why would heavy haul pay more than intermodel ? just wondering, are they run as completely different companies with different management and HR ?

I believe that freightliner is split into essentially two companies, intermodal and heavy haul I would imagine that due to heavy haul being involved in engineering work (amongst other bulk loads) that the hours would involve many nights and weekends hence the higher pay rate. Don't get me wrong I would imagine there is also night and weekend working with intermodal just not as much as heavy haul.

How do you know this will be the pay? I'm assuming you have got these figure from the previous train driver graduate scheme in May 2014 (http://www.freightliner.co.uk/en/jo...iner-heavy-haul-train-driver-graduate-scheme/) which is Heavy Haul and not intermodal. Apparently intermodal earn less than HH which I don't understand.

Can anyone shed some light onto this?

I believe from reading somewhere previously, I think it may have been ASLEF, that IM drivers do a shorter 35hour week and due to the nature of the business (ie no engineering possession trains) they work more relatively sociable hours so the discrepancy in pay levels is almost I guess like a shift allowance.

I hope people understand what I mean because even reading it back to myself it sounds poorly worded.

Rates of pay for qualified drivers:

Intermodal £41,400
Heavy Haul £49011 (pay award due October 15)

Submitted my application yesterday. At the end of application it said they'd get back to successful candidates in June. Not too long to wait. Good luck everyone.

Did you have to do the mechanical /spatial awareness type test heavy haul used?

Application in but just had my DBS assessment etc cancelled as freight is being scaled back so I'm not holding my breath.:roll:

Am I right in thinking they said on their web site that they wouldn't be in contact unless you are successful. I assume that'll mean no emails?

Think I read on the heavy haul feed flhh hr posted that there are no confirmation emails if you received the last page stating application submitted we will notify successful applicants in June then your application has been received.
