March course is all full now, and as for travel asfel is ment to be having talking to Freightliner to try get us currently there the travel perks.
Unless you started pre 1996, you will not be entitled to free travel. Freightliner are not members of ATOC, the same as any other FOC....ATOC will not give any new starters free travel.
The reason is, is that freight can't offer a service to others that are members of a TOC, even though we are part and parcel of the railway.
Myself, I have to pay 20% tax of around £600 to keep my priv passes, which I feel is unfair. We do continue to fight your cases, but ATOC are a law to themselves...so the chances you guys getting free travel will be a big fat 0 !!!
And James, I like your comment..The best job ever...lol...I've done 30 years driving freight trains, and will be glad to leave it to you guys !!.
Intermodal is the better side to work for, we have more structured rosters like passenger drivers.
Also at Intermodal we have hardly no Saturdays or few if any Sundays, more sociable sign on times and step on step off jobs. . HH have no start times (pending location), just AM's, PM's and nights, unless you have WTT stuff on a regular basis...Good luck though.
I did read about loss of drivers if you lose a contract...I maybe be wrong here, but I have never heard anything like that within Freightliner, they are one of the better companies to work for. The only company I have heard of losing drivers were DRS, but these people are not to be compared to Freightliner and unfortunately DBS. The reason DBS lost contracts and I hate saying this, was because they became unreliable and trains got stranded everywhere. I would think your job will be quite safe and please don't listen to gossip
