GBRf must obviously like them then. Hopefully they will appear in areas other than the South East.
Depends who you ask - I'm told the 69s are not the most comfortable of workplaces.

But I was very much expecting [and waiting for confirmation of] the next six conversions.

Do we know if the 69s will be assigned to any other workings other than the usual Mountfield - Southampton? I presume the Cl 69s will displace the vast majority of 66s already stationed in Tonbridge

They were on the hoo junction to Eastleigh trains, but they've mostly cleared off to doncaster and longport now

Having looked around one recently, I'm not surprised. The cab for example isn't great if your a tall person, as the floor has been raised up considerably. The sun visors are a little odd, very 1960s Volkswagen reminiscent!

I just hope the standard of welding at Longport Improves considerably in the next batch though - they are frankly awful. Arlington certainly does a good job of trying to hide it with a top quality paint job, but the bodyside ripples and indentations are still there.

Hmmm, a repaint already? I hope they don't spend too much money on fancy liveries lest the financial decision makes put a stop to the fun. I've yet to see a 69 at all!
Given that the text under the image states 'the lower bodyside can be seen to be rubbed down' - this is likely something to do with the cream line being wonky!

The cream band isn’t wonky, but the radiator grille certainly is…

Turns out it was a 'freshen up'. It was at Rail Live in the same green livery today.
More a touch up to replace some of the deep scratches it sadly received on some of its recent trips (particularly to the SVR unfortunately).

Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere but 56128 is currently on test at Longport waiting to be re-registered as 69006, report, loco history and picture courtesy of WNXX

How much "real" work are they doing so far? I'm aware of them doing the Mountfield/Southampton trips but not much else. On that, they've sort of become the normal traction but not every day. With 5 locos in services I'd have thought they would be showing up on rather more stuff by now. Are they still in the "teething problems" stage of life?

56312 is expected to be in that range.

Yes, I believe the four originally mentioned were 009/081/098/312, perhaps the IDs are just which 56 will be which 69

Reported on WNXX today that the road transfer of 56032 to Marcroft ran into some problems and was taken back to Longport

Could the 69's replace Class 66's on engineering trains?

They can technically do what ever a 66's does (or some I'm told) but due to training requirements you are unlikely to see them on engineering trains to and from (particularly larger) possessions.

Is that the one which was on its way to being scrapped?

That's the one, was bought from Booth's, I believe. As an aside, possibly newest 56 bodyshell remaining?
