Probably why 2030 KGX - LDS took 88 minutes to do Grantham to Newark and is now due into Leeds 90 mins down.

1N27 1820 KGX-SUN broke down south of Newark today :(

Passed it around 200 yards of Newark at around 21.10, where it had been stood for some time. Single Line Working was instigated - looking at other delays which it caused, I think I got off quite likely to be 75 minutes late into York on the 19.00 ex Kings Cross. NXEC supplied me with a £30 taxi home, having missed my connection.

I'm guessing there was perhaps a brake fault with the GC HST, considering they hadn't even managed to move it 200 yards into Newark station to detrain passengers - perhaps one of the GC guys could confirm or provide a bit more info?

2030 Kings Cross to Leeds is just arriving into Leeds now and could be seen from my flat window, only 101 late.

Someone should be asking some serious questions now, whether its a maintenance or overhaul issue, that's the second one that's had bogie trouble...

The 6:46 Sun - LKX I presume cancelled because of the problem last night, as the 11:27 LKX - Sun is cancelled. What happened to the spare set at Heaton?

Still not ready! 1650 Kings Cross to Sunderland should run as the 1410 ex York has and was sounding superb.

These HSTs really need to improve in reliability before passengers can have any confidence in travelling with GC.

Wrong oil put in apparently, I believe it is Motak oil supposedly used. This was not the case and the gearbox seized as a result.

Two major problems for 43065 since overhaul now apparently. If I was paranoid, I'd be suspecting there was something dodgy going on...

Well it;s Northern at Heaton looking after it - do they also look after the NX trains which stable there, or is that an NX team? Do any NX HST's stable there, or just the IC225's?

Photos here: http://www.jonhewes.fotopic.net/p49227498.html (that photo shows 43065 detatched, there are more photos on that site).

Gen given out just after 9pm this evening "66076 has left 43065 at Newark, that's the bust one! 5Z66 passed York 2101 with 5 coaches and 43084 on the back".

and if anyone wants to hear the announcement click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsYWYMoeAW0

In theory the set could be back tomorrow if they do a power car swap tonight! Let's hope so...!

I couldn't understand why the the 5Z66 couldn't have run last night up to Heaton to pick up a spare PC and run today in its normal path......
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Looking at the quality of the ground under the sidings and the amount of undergrowth, I'd be worried about a derailing.......

From this
"...Whilst we currently have two train sets in working condition, we still have no back-up vehicles delivered, or available, should anything go wrong, and we cannot entertain introducing further services until that position improves...."
from 29th Jan (pre-full service); http://www.grandcentralrail.co.uk/news.html?id=news057

I'd assumed that it meant they wouldnt be starting a full service without the 3 trains in working condition.

I was with djw1981 why not just swap a power car, but that was assuming the rest of the train was back in Heaton - by the photos (good job:)) it wasnt.

What happened to the passengers and crew if the train stayed at Newark the night? edit: just watched the youtube

Hopefully the rake will make it back to Heaton tonight and the spare powercar (080?) turned if needs be and put on the set. I imagine the early run from London will be cancelled however.

The person making the announcement is me ! Can you detect the air of resignation in me voice then ??:|

Grand Central, winners of train operator of the year!! ::roll:

What is going on, 3 services either didn't run today or didn't make it to the destination.

Don't quote me on this, but this is what i have heard:

Presumably Cancelled
1A62 SUN - KXG - 573 mins overdue at SUN
1N25 KXG - SUN - 834 mins overdue at KXG

Presumably terminated at York
1N26 KXG - SUN - 513 mins overdue at YRK

Why was a another power car, not sent down to Newark L.E.?

Thanks

If those are correct, I believe that would be a new record for delays in this country...I'll check, but I know it's over 800 at this moment in time.

Either way, it would look as if GC would be better off MTU'ing the power cars to the same standard as GNER/NXEC did/are doing...

Hope this was a one off for them, and they can sort there problems.
