A new thumper eh?

Indeed, in this the 25th Anniversary year of the demise of the last 70 class, a photo of that very set, with no 75 River Maine leading, a couple of weeks before the set was wrecked internally by drunken Apprentice Boys and withdrawn. As 2011 is likely to be the last year in which its venerable 45 year old 4SRKT power unit will still be operational in a 450 class, it's a poignant picture :(

Amazing to think that the 450s that were born out of these sets have now been running for 5 years longer than the 70s managed!

First time I went across the 70s had all gone.

Off topic but remember this

I do believe that 117 is not where it is supposed to be; instead I suspect it is somewhere between ashford Works and where you would normally find it.

Bickley?

Although I don't recall a fence splitting one end of one of the platforms there so I suspect I may have the correct line but the incorrect station...

I'm embarrassed to claim that- it's only one stop away from me as well.

Yes... a big D'oh moment - I correctly recognised the station but got the name muddled up with the next one down the line didn't I?!:roll:

Almost as embarrasing as the day I failed to recognise a well known railway personality who I had known for years...

Shot in the dark here:

Ancaster

I take it this station is still open?

If that is correct I shall be amazed it is floor open. Off to bed and on an unexpected Skip bash tomorrow so shall not be about to post. Will have a quick look in on the mobile.

It is Bray - Graystones shuttle pre Dart.

It was the only diesel unit in the ROI. Every other train outside DART was loco hauled.

And here's one of the Bray > Greystones shuttle in 1985 one year after the DART opened to Bray, and before IR leased the 3 80 class units from NIR. A push-pull set consisting of three coaches converted from old AEC railcars, with the most appalling moulded fibreglass seats in. Truly grim.

No- the station is still open.

However, the station name has changed slightly since then (at the time of the photo, the name had a '& xxx' suffix to the current name).

I'm probably missing something here...But what is the connection between Thumpers and Desiros? The two are pretty much worlds apart from what I know!
(And Thumpers are not only more reliable, but they don't fail in light snowfall either... ;))

Not on the Isle of Wight... or any other island (apart from Great Britain).
Can I just double-check on that for a moment? That looks like a two-road station to my eye, yet the train looks to be running right-hand and the clear presence of the "Gentlemen" sign rules out a rev-angle shot. :?:

In the meantime; The brickwork and architecture look Eastern Region to my eye, and the dray in the picture suggests routine handling of passengers with volumes of luggage who might be going to/from University. Is it Cambridge? :)
