That makes sense, given that they're probably taking them out of 458s at the moment and they haven't gone in the bin yet.

GWR has today issued a tender for painting four class 57s and sleeper stock (20 vehicles), has to be done away from GWR depot

Perhaps we’ll see the heritage livery 57s as mentioned above. But what of the coaches,they were only repainted from blue to Green a few years ago.

...apparently the Dft insisted upon standard GWR green so not allowed anything different.... ( remembering artist impression of IET in allover chocolate.... ) .Even suggested coaches being named to help with booking...
Anyhow.. at Plymouth Laira, GWR 57604 Pendennis Castle is being prepped for engine removal as part of G Exam. 7/11/23. Taken as part of on duty...

So will 604 retain its GW green and lining with brass plates or will it be standard green and alloy castle plates?
As GWR is a private company and owns the 57s why has the DfT insisted upon standard GWR green livery,it’s akin to them telling me I cannot respray my car!

It depends on the leasing arrangement over who directly pays, but ultimately it will be DfT/GWR as they either pay directly or through the lease.

604 will still carry its heritage green ( 3rd repaint in this scheme ) . As a passenger franchuse TOC rather than private, the DfT have control over certain things and unfortunately that includes livery now.
The C6 for the stock , although includes repainting, is also more for out of sight stuff.
Oh wow, a 458 seat! Must be out of one of the refurbished ones.
It is indeed out of the first class area of a 458/5. The seats were taken out at Bournemouth depot prior to the unit(s) being sent to Widnes.

Because of engineering works, service only running Friday and Sunday mainly until march. There are possible training runs but several cancelled due to sickness.

I'm guessing the G Exam needs a lot more than the engine removed.
Is nice to finally be able to see the panelling between the Engine Room and Rectifier Room with how much conduit has been 'lost' in this location by various mods over the years. Looks like GSM-R had it's cut too long...
Does very much vindicate some design choices myself and a colleague made a while back though that received some significant challenges.

That's the current thinking, yes.
I don't think anyone has ever said what the new codes actually are for the day coaches ! Certainly the Longe buffet is no.longer a TRFBM !

T in TSOD (and indeed TSO) was never Trailer. The designation was Tourist Standard Open. It is the LHCS equivalent of an HST TS (which is Trailer Standard). Confusing, I know…

TSO with T=tourist meant 2+2 didn't it, with the original SOs being 2+1 but at Standard class pitch (8 windows in a Mk1 rather than 7 in 1st)?
