Very rare occurence of external vacancies at the premier depot on Great Western, for qualified drivers.

Routes are London , Penzance, Newquay, Gunnislake , Bristol , Paignton, Laira depot.

HSTs, IETs , class 57, sprinters, voyagers , 08 pilots.

Vacancies in connection with the new GWR driver grade and the companies obsession with seeing off HSS.

Get in while u can they won't be around long!!!!!!

Worth noting that new entrant qualified will start on 90% of the full mainline salary, for their first year.

Surely enough on the waiting list to fill positions? Or did many remove as it’s not about money anymore. We have someone st Westbury trying to get there as closer to “home”

You'd think so, but it's main feeder, Par, has become a very attractive depot of late - earliest start is 0650, last off is 2350. No nights, and about to pick up extra work on the Ives and get some 2+4HST work. And indeed, as you say, it's no longer financially beneficial and the Ts+Cs aren't wildly better any more.

That particular driver shouldn't struggle, I would be surprised if she didn't get a PTR move and they took on Externals. Although I'd have thought she'd want to go Exeter....?

West drivers can no longer transfer to HSS depots however if a separate west link is being created at Plymouth people may once again be allowed to transfer internally

West doesn't exist any more either. It is now GWR, so a GWR link will be created at the depot and ex-West and ex-LTV GWR drivers can transfer to that GWR link. HSS can also opt to transfer to the GWR link and accept a GWR contract. However, true to form, I don't think any of you are going to!!

What’s the deal if as external qualified you’ve applied to Reading? Would you be able to transfer west to Devon/Cornwall after 3 years?

Not sure of the minimum time in grade before being able to transfer, but you would be allowed 1 PTR move in your career. So you could use that to go from Reading to a West Country depot with a vacancy. Not sure if those who will do Reading to Reading's sub-depot at Swindon, and Bristol to Bristol's sub-depot at Cardiff, when they open, would be charged their 1 PTR move. As, they are transferring depot, but those depots will still be parts of their main "home" depots. LDC/DDC reps will probably be able to advise that when the time comes

What would that be in west? Barely scraping 50?
Unsure at the moment. The staged increases towards the full GWR salary happens differently east and west. But the figure in 2020 will be 60+ so its a short term pain sort of thing...

I’m surprised Plymouth is on that list!
Maybe lots of drivers jumped off the list after harmonisation?
I know lots had their names down for Bristol (who live in Swindon) have dropped out due to the satellite depot. It wouldn’t surprise me if that is a start of something...

I wonder, if someone was ‘Bristol/Exeter west’ and they wanted to do long distance; What do they do now? As the ‘west’ doesn’t exist now. I know Padd will eventually create links in the future to gradually cover the HSS work.

HSS is ringfinced. So current HSS will stay like it unless they choose otherwise.

The ex-West depots will gradually become mixed traction and start to cover IET work.

Swindon depot will be staffed from Reading. So any drivers who want to go there will have to transfer to Reading first

Also, it was never usually about the long distance driving, it was that HSS were paid more amd had better Ts and Cs. Not the case any more
