GWR proposal to run a class 387 from Cardiff on weekday evenings from December 2020

Just looked through RTT and it did West Ealing - Paddington, then from there to Cardiff (plus Cardiff sidings and back) then back to Paddington to do a couple of Newburys and finally one to Reading.

Today its been on Didcots all day.

387174 is at Ilford for repairs (post fatality)

On 1st June 387174 was moved in an ecs move.

I see, I did not know that was the case. Thank you for that, most appreciated I will stop looking for the time being then.



Fair enough, good to know 387174 is my last of the GWR Thames Valley stuff I want for now, until of course the 769s begin service.

On 1st June, 387174 was reported as ECS move 5Q64 10:19 Ilford Electric Multiple Unit Depot to READING TRAINCARE DEPOT.
I have been checking it on RTT fairly regularly since then, but it doesn't appear to have been in operational since then.
Does anyone know what is happening with it?

On 1st June, 387174 was reported as ECS move 5Q64 10:19 Ilford Electric Multiple Unit Depot to READING TRAINCARE DEPOT.

On the stop list at Reading TCD, which it has been since it’s return from Ilford. It’s a bit of a Christmas Tree at the moment, it’s got several parts robbed off it for other units.

Of course, no month is complete with a decent bit of cycling. Tour de France starts today, and then it's the Commonwealth Games So I've not got a ton of time for trains

This afternoon 387174 is in the East sidings of Reading TCD with its pan up. I think it is on the same road as 387301+302+306 which is the one nearest to the Up Relief.

It won’t be on the same road, not enough room. 301 and it’s mates are on East 2. The road behind is East 4 and is split into 2 (East 4 East & West) by the point which connects from East 2. 174 is likely sat at the London end of East 4 West which would look like it’s on the same road as 301 etc.

Thank you for that clarification. It nearly caught me out because green 387s on Reading TCD are rarely noteworthy, although 174 is. My attention was drawn to the white 387s that shouldn't be there had their move not been aborted on Tuesday.

Not to my knowledge - I don't know where you'd get the 387s to achieve it for starters.

Sorry, only just seen this. Yes 387174 is still resident on the Reading TCD stop list. If it’s still a Stopper come the 21st October that will be its 1 year anniversary!

Update 18/09:

387174 has had all its work completed and released, albeit with a ‘multi-only’ restriction on it as the 421 end cab needs to be boxed in. There is an ECS move tomorrow from Reading TCD > Swindon Cocklebury Sidings which should then see 387174‘s first use in traffic since Oct 21.
