For me the shift pattern and rail season ticket are the most important unanswered questions. If were going to be working most weekends, 5am starts, 3am finished for example, I want to know about it in advance!

there definitely will be nothing of the sort, I think it will be 12 hour weekends which would mean less weekend working if there are 7 teams, I would think 9 hour night turns because it makes sense to do a 10-7 shift to see out last trains, hand over possession or commence an engineering hours shift and then bring in the 1st trains into service. would make hand overs much easier and less questions asked (train stabling wise) if you was to start a 11pm or 12am. obviously this is to be confirmed but logically it makes the most sense

As for the rail season, it will be 75% off annual tickets the full 75% is on these networks only which you can get directly from

•Great Northern
•Thameslink
•Southern
•Gatwick Express
•Virgin Trains East Coast

anything else, you buy the ticket in full and claim back the discount, which wouldn't quite work out to 75% from what iv heard

That's very interesting about the season tickets as I would be coming in on greater anglia, I would be concerned if it was much less than 75% discount as that's one of the things that attracted me to the job in the first place! Another question to add to the list I guess :|

Thanks for the info

I was told there waiting to hear back regarding a number of questions people have asked and will then put it all in one email to everyone. It's getting pretty close to the time people need to be handing in notice at current employers so they need to hurry up with that!

I've got medical in August. Yeah seem to be cutting it fine. Romford will be tough commute and not been the smoothest process since job offers were sent out. Hopefully questions will be answered soon. Not sure what they will do if some people decline the role as a result of one or more answers though.

The season ticket on Tocs not listed above is at 75% discount but you will have to pay NI and tax on it. For GTR and East Coast then you get the full 75% discount with no tax, but your ticket is only valid on either GTR or East Coast train services.

I agree with you Rodders, i'm certainly not handing in my notice until I've got some answers !! Unfortunately every time I've emailed with a question or holiday dates etc. I've not had a single reply, doesn't bode well IMO.

Billlyboy same here. Notice not going in yet. They just seem to be content to allow people to remain uninformed. Some said Romford training only. Another said it will be permanent posting. Another said it may not even be the full 6 months at Romford. These are important details.

Seems someone has been asked to trawl through the emails today and answer as best they can. So far they have said Romford has no parking. Awaiting confirmation re satellite stations or if permanently based at Romford.

Got an email last week stating Whitechapel or Paddington as a base for IRM's and training hours as you state. Got my medical next week, booked it 2 weeks ago and still await confirmation email of timings and venue. Have just emailed again for this info !!!

Have to say, their communication is very poor and it seems everyone feels the same, I don't think its too much to ask to get some answers !!

Had an email with same information on re Paddington and Whitechapel as base locations. Training office hours but flexible etc. Seems everyone asking for details. Await medical. No more information or contract signing dates. Not much time left for notice periods.

Guys same department is dealing with csa & night tube. They have put them above you lot as the company need them first so medical/start date is still being allocated, yours should be from next, frustrating but that's what up right now.

Hey guys,

I rang them a few days ago and they confirmed I'd been successful on my medical and background checks. Apart from that the only thing they knew was my start date (18/9 for TM). Hopefully we will get an update soon.

Hi all
Just found this site and thread
Pleased to say I too have been offered an IRM post and have found the recruitment process experience to be the same as everyone else's! Got my medical first week in September so hoping the final contract offer doesn't take too long after that...so many questions still to be answered!
Really helpful hearing all your experiences

Any of those joining at TM's this month had any enlighting news, assuming most have passed usual 4 weeks notice period so no turning back....

With regret I've pulled out the process. Getting near to the time i'd have to hand my notice in and didn't feel comfortable doing it. I just needed some answers from TFL, which we all do, but never got any replies or assurances, and felt I just couldn't take the risk. For me, it's too late in life to take a blind leap of faith !!

All the best to those who persevere, i'm sure it will all work out for you

@ Billyboy5, best of luck!

I received a contract yesterday and it confirms everything I had been told before (holiday, starting date, training period, perks, etc). Most important for me, it confirms the job is based in Romford (TM) - however, it says it may be changed in the future if the operation requires.

Billyboy, sorry to hear that but I understand. Best of luck with whatever you decide upon next.

I called re contract and was told at some point in September it will be sent out to everyone at the same time and invitation to sign will be a week before training.

Up to now all we know is training romford but not all the time. Office hours, yet not always. Upon completion of training it's Whitechapel or Paddington. Then salary.

No mention of overtime payments to be offered, any shift patterns, uniform or suit based etc.

Hopefully this all encompassing document will be sent out soon but not hopeful. Assuming most people have a minimum of a months notice from current employment. Decision time looming

Thanks guys, I thought the answer would probably be something similar!
Realistically I need to hand my notice in this coming Friday and still know very little other than what was in the original advert! Hey ho, gotta have a little blind faith every so often........

So rang and all seems good, still same information as everyone else, did reiterate that contracts will be going out all together...
My notice goes in this week or next, so I'll see all those who jump ship and good luck.
