User activity is about the same as it's always been. There's less activity in General Discussion but more in the NR forums, and also less spam and other rubbish, and posts are up compared to last year.

From what I've seen, I think it has slowed down slightly, although I don't have any figures. However, I would also say that there's been a decrease in General "Off Topic" Discussion, and a surge in Railway Discussion. So if there is a net loss, it's not really noticeable.

What I'm saying is that there may well have been a slight decrease in quantity, but that's offset by a huge increase in quality over the past few months. And long may it continue!

I have been visitng a site for years and years and it's clique is so strong that you hardly ever get any involvement. Due to the fact that I have been a subway fan since the 1950's, I am greatly interested in all metro lines. Whatever you want to call them is cool with me. And, since my wife was born in Hendon and raised in Romford, I want to learn as much as I can about the London Underground. The equipment is so unuasual compared with what I have personally experienced. This site is very well done. The participants seem to have manners and breeding. Quite refreshing. That doesn't mean fun can't be had, that's a given.:D

Yup - I agree that since "the mess room" opened, a lot of the General Discussion has migrated over there, leaving this forum relatively sensible again!

One thing I have noticed - Chris aka me123 no longer a moderator?

Yes, I have resigned from my position as moderator. You're not the only one not to have noticed ;)

No, I don't think it is going downhill.

There's another forum, which used to be very lively, that's got down to less than two dozen people using it daily, and sometimes fewer than two posts in 24 hours - and that's about London bus routes! Pah!

What I do think is happening, is that some forums are becoming more "specialist"; for example, the train simming community seems to have a place where most of the BVE experts congregate. The other thing I've noticed, over they years, is that people seem to spend the summer months riding on and photting the railways, and the winter months talking about them, so I think there's a bit of seasonality going on at the moment...

... such as our own Cycling section...

Which was last posted in on the 2nd of may was it not?

Not many people have signed up to the bike ride section remember. It mainly lists jolly outings and with a selection available, why bombard it with even more so close together?

Very good point, i suppose my thoughts of the forum slowing down were more the fact I was viewing the General discussion more than anything else.

Hear hear. This place is 1000% better nowadays. Plenty of discussion over in National Railways to keep me going, much better than all the "froth" and "veg" that used to be over here in General Discussion :D

Plus we got some cracking new members! Like ChristheRef, you Geezertronic and plenty of others. Long may RailUK survive.

some of the rules here are a bit OTT, on the other forum that I am on (its really my webhost's support forum, but its alot more than that to us), they PM you when you break a rule with what and how you broke it, and a warning of what to do, if you look at my profile you should see an expired infraction, with that I got no PM, nothing to tell me how I broke the rule and by how much and what not to do in the future to make sure that I don't break that rule again. and I am a bit nervous of complaining about it because a) it might not get listened to and b) I might get in more trouble

Sorry about that, you should've got a mesage with your warning to explain what you did wrong. Will look into it and send you a PM!

if it helps the offending signature looked like the one here. I think it was because of the amount of images or the signature chat box or my banner
Just had a look, it wasn't an infraction, just a message to say that your signature was too large - being such a long time ago I couldn't say what it was (can't get onto that forum - requires login), but the signature size limit is to ensure users, whatever their resolution can see the forums without the layout being altered.

We do not discuss reasons of specific bans, end of.

What I will say is that every ban occurs for a reason, and one which may not be visible from a user's posts (e.g. profile infractions, deleted posts, etc.). Bans can be automatic after receiving a set amount of infraction points - e.g. get 7 points and that's a week's automatic ban. There is also no distinction to whether a ban is permanent or temporary to members other then those concerned.
