I've been trying to open the Trainsimcentral web site without success.

On the 2/5/09 I was downloading lt1995_open.7z from the site and at 94% the download stalled. Since then, on and off, I've tried to complete the download and also access the Trainsimcentral site ........... no response.

I thought I might see some clue on RailUK forum that others were having similar problems. Is it just me

My broadband connection is via satellite which often leaves much to be desired and in the past browsing the Trainsimcentral site has been patchy, so I'm wondering if patchy is now broken. If I try pinging the site it times out.

Yeah ....... well I thought so, it is me.
I know this satellite connection is dodgy at times, but I can't see why Trainsimcentral should be unreachable for so long when I can connect OK to this site, for instance.
Maybe my browser history, cookies etc need a good clean out.

I had a similar problem... I was unable to get into trainsimcentral for about five days... the solution was to turn my broadband router off and on again.... !!!

Have you tried this?

Thanks for the hint, but my satellite modem gets rebooted every day.

It's a bit weird, because as I said earlier the real trouble with Trainsimcentral started when the download from Trainsimcentral stalled at 94% and that was the last time I was in touch with the site, almost two weeks ago. My download manager can't reconnect, web browser times out and I can't get a response pinging the site.

I tend to think the latency on the satellite link might be behind it, but I'm no expert in that area.

I've just emailed my ISP support, but since it's almost 10:00pm I won't hear back tonight...!!!

I haven't been able to get on for 2 weeks, except for through a proxy! Damn annoying!

I will try Eezypeazys trick in the morning though!

It could be that your ISP has blocked the website for some unknown reason, this happenned a while ago with SimSig and Tiscali customers.

I would assume that things like that usually happen because some donut at the ISP sees that there are a lot of download traffic from the site and assumes it is some sort of illegal peer to peer site without bothering to check...

Or they must have something against us Aussies

But yeah I've been having problems as well. Currently popping an email to my ISP Optus tech support to see if they can fix it

I've no idea how it happens - it could also be that a site owner has blocked an IP address, for example I (on Tiscali) don't always have the same IP address.

I got a reply from my ISP who suggested I try connecting via www.ninjacloak.com and if that was successful then maybe Trainsimcentral is blocking me ...... I quote from my ISP response email:
It is possible that the website is blocking out NAT address, which isn\'t you specific IP address the site won\'t be able to see it as it\'s private. But if the NAT is blocked there\'s probably not a whole lot we can do about it. You could try contact the website and see if they are blocking you.

I have sent an email to forumadmin@trainsimcentral quoting the above and I gave them my IP address as well to check.

Hopefully it will meet with some resolution soon.

The screenshot for both Firefox and IE are the same, the standard timeout message for a non responding site ...........

timeout1.jpg

and here is the screenshot of the Command Prompt window when pinging Trainsimcentral

The fact that my download stalled at 94% made me think initially that Kaspersky Anti-Virus scanner was blocking it ...... but I have tried with both Kasperky and the Firewall disabled and still no response.

I have emailed Trainsimcentral (no reply yet) and my ISP is sort of looking in to it but has the weekend off
Maybe come Monday

Oh I beleive I know this problem a little too well.

Do you use a router? If so, it could be that. I had a similar problem a few months back with a site I visited regularly. My router was failing and for whatever reason, blocked that site from my network. If by some chance you're on the same course I was, watch your internet connection.

No I don't use a router, my (so called) broadband connection is via a VSAT Modem connected to a 1m diameter satellite dish.
I often have difficulty loading some sites, it seems to hang, which sometimes can be resolved by stopping and reloading. As I said previously, I suspect the latency which exists with satellite communication is a problem (depending on atmospheric conditions too) and in the past I have had particular problems with Trainsimcentral displaying the web pages with the proper format, but always I have been able to connect.
I will be changing my connection to wireless broadband in a couple of months when my current ISP contract expires. Wireless broadband (which has recently become available in this remote area) is a lot faster, but still has signal problems depending on reception conditions current.
You people don't know how lucky you are to have access to REAL high speed broadband........ maybe I'll go back to dial-up !!!!!!

My ISP has got back to me today:
The site\'s host has definitely blocked our NAT address. It is not a problem with a router or such. We have done tests to show that it is blocked.
So I've emailed Trainsimcentral with a list of four IP addresses that need to be fixed to allow me access ............ here's hoping.

All's well that ends well .......

After a couple of emails to and from Steve Green at Trainsimcentral Forum Admin, Steve was able to get the host to unblock the IP so I now have access once again.

Many thanks to Steve
