Not in the database for fares or planning yet.

Does that usually take time after opening. I presume the guards have it in their inboard ticket machines.

There goes another station opening I didn't even know was happening! That seemed incredibly quick.

How is anyone supposed to buy a ticket to it!?

Having used this station myself today and created it as a 'place' on Facebook, I have to say I was quite impressed. Its much better, the walk to the hospital isn't that far (nearest to Bridge Entrance and South Entrance). The station sign I was surprised at 'James Cook University Hospital Station'. I took it as a given that a train dropped me off at a station and not the hospital doors lol.

Anyone wanting to go would be sold a ticket to Marton (coppers more than what fare will be once the station is on the database).

I suppose if the boards just said 'James Cook University Hospital' that would be technically incorrect as it's a station and not a hospital per se.

Quite.

It isn't Wavertree Technology Park Station or Blackpool Pleasure Beach Station? Even IBM is just... IBM.

Platform signs at Nelson have a similar case of identity crisis. One sign says "Nelson" another says "Nelson Interchange" and another says "Nelson Station". All proper Northern Rail brand platform signs.

I have seen '.. Station' on a nameplate somewhere else quite randomly not that long ago, cannot for the life of me remember where though. I'll try my best to!

I'm in favour of consistency of signage in that the signs should read Meadowhall, MetroCentre, Luton Airport Parkway, James Cook University Hospital etc... without the word 'station' or anything else at the end of it. It should be blatantly obvious that you are quite near the facility the station name refers to although let's ignore Teesside Airport. :P

Well we can let that go anyway as there is no such thing as Teesside airport (despite what departure boards at other airports say lol)

Mossley? There's another nearby on that line too.

I went to James Cook last night and was a bit confused that there was still some construction work needed doing (landscaping on the approach and rails for the access ramp to the platform) and felt sorry for the security guard for the station construction site who happened to walk past me as I was walking back to the car park at 10pm. It mustn't be a fun job in the wee small hours.

It took me 2 hours and 11 minutes in the car coming back non-stop.

If you type the 3 letter code of JCH into National Rail Enquiries, it comes up with the two letter word of James Cook only at the present time. No mention made of the hospital.

The East Coast website reckons it's called "James Cook Hospital (Teeside)", Paul.

A quick update on this, three attached photos I took. "James Cook University Hospital Station" on 08/06 - plain old "James Cook" on 13/06 - a definite improvement in my view! Also a pic of the screen installed here, but clearly not yet online or displaying the right time :p Wonder why they have installed it parallel to the platform edge rather than at a right angle!?

To add to what starmill has said, having visited on 8th June and again on 13th, the area is also now significantly more landscaped with a number of plants now in the non accessible areas with woodchip covering the area. Quite how they have managed to get the screen going with completely the wrong time goodness only knows, but when I went through yesterday (14th) it was the same, just now displaying a time nearer to 20:00!

Someone on Friday evening did ask if that was the right time - maybe they were hoping that the first train of the day to Whitby wasn't too far away :P

It seems the whole place is still run off some generators (can hear them from the footpath over the other side of the bridge which we walked along from Marton) - hopefully they will get it mains wired at some point soon.

I was slightly concerned to find that, whilst tapping around on the TPE TVM at Middlesbrough, that inputting "James" gets you James Street (Liverpool) and nothing else, so unless it is under a different name, tickets cannot be bought from TVM's to it. I tried a Northern machine at Morpeth too, to the same effect - not good on any count!

Middlesbrough also didn't use the automated announcement system for the Whitby service (whilst it was in use for a Saltburn and Bishop Auckland service around the same time), opting instead for a manual override - so maybe the system are not yet programmed for it and to avoid blanks, they have just stopped them altogether.
