Does anyone know if there is a website out there that lets you view a map with all the current running trains and their location?
Yes that sort of style but was hoping to view Bristol to Exeter.
How come not all areas are covered, like guildford?
Guildford's covered - see http://www.opentraintimes.com/maps/signalling/guildford
The reason the whole country isn't covered is because I draw every single map by hand and it takes a long time to get them correct.
I'd be very surprised as this data isn't included in the publicly available data feeds. Is there any sites which also includes the unit number of the train working the service?

https://www.train-track.co.uk/ its new but most of it is working e.g. map

I have often wondered this. I can't seem to find a single website which provides this level of detail. My guess is that as this is public information, you could argue that the number or formation is too detailed.
Thanks,
Ross
If you wanted to ride on a particular type of train or formation, would there be any way of finding out?
GENIUS, GEMINI and TOPS are not part of the open data feeds, which is why no public website lists such details.
If you want access, you sign up. Simples. As a thought how does all of the access rights for these websites work? I work for a contractor to network rail, should I have a login and password or is it just toc and operational workers?

I don't know how close they are to being full - I signed up and got access pretty much straight away. However, your account probably won't do anything. The NR datafeeds are restricted to 500 users at a time, so you'll have to wait for a few dozen people's account to become inactive.
