Im not sure what people really expected from it though, its effectively underground, so what do you do with it?

that point is missed by most here. Upstairs is very good and the platforms are less dank than before. it is MILES better than it was. I suspect the issue for most posters here is that how they use a station is different to how moist use a station like New Street. Normals spend as little time as possible on the platforms.

More access points constructed when it was rebuilt to spread the load? Also how about making the walls white / improving the lighting? Just look at Platforms 11 to 18 at Liverpool Street - they are 'underground' but seem better.

The walls are white. You could paint the ceiling white too and use uplighters if only you could get shut of the DMUs.

Edit: Actually, most of the problems with New St relate to the presence of DMUs, really.

I am sure cutting more holes in a structural slab would in no way be a problem..................................

Timetable gonna be tested again today with a broken down train

the 9:13 out of euston left at 9:37 and all stops between euston and birmingham are cancelled except northampton. How does that work exactly?

It'll run up the fasts as far as MKC platform 5 and cross there, I'd think. Probably a crew change or a join/split at NMP.

Four consecutive Chase line cancellations from Rugeley TV this morning (no train 0919-1146), all started Hednesford due to late running northbound services. The short turnarounds at RTV are a real weak point in the new timetable. Any chance of WMT finding a spare unit and crew for a hot spare in the Birmingham area so they can restart services on time from New Street or Walsall or somewhere?

If I remember correctly original plan was to terminate them at Walsall. EMU do rugleey shuttle. It was extended to rugeley for some reason.

Terminating them at Walsall but not taking any staff/units out of the circuit would probably help. Then a separate New St (or Intl)-Rugeley EMU service using 323s.

If you also terminated the "Crewe wobble" service at Wolves in the bay, with a separate New St-Crewe EMU via the wobble, that would probably introduce enough slack to make it at least vaguely workable.

Birmingham to Crewe via stoke was meant to be a separate services. Thanks to MPs and local councils also public they had to combine it a Birmingham Euston service. Not enough 323s to be honest. Pretty much go back to original plan.

Crewe via stoke is a joke of a service because of having to keep disruption down south WCML to a minimal they divert the wobble trains to the fast line!

Currently stranded for 2 hours as they are diverting wobble trains. Terrible. They need to separate it from euston service and make it more frequent

Great for frequency terrible for unit availability. You make it sound like the wobble is a problem. Its not. Its the london services which are ruining the timetable for it

And it's ruining the services for Euston commuters. The point is that overall the long through services with complex unit and particularly crew diagrams are not working for anybody and need splitting back up.

Splitting is the best solution for wobble and chase

but considering their are plenty units out of euston running the south WCML every hour but only 1 out of crewe on the wobble. I would say for commuters train availability wise euston compared to wobble is less of an issue

I agree it’s a problem via stoke going to Euston from Crewe via Birmingham. It’s to keep passengers happy and MPs mainly.

The issues with LNRs timetable is getting beyond a joke!! Stranded for another hour!!

When will they realise trains need to be split up and frequency needs to be improved

Frequency isn't a priority - stabilising the service has to be. It's getting as bad as GTR.
May not be a priority for everyone but when your at a station like mine. It becomes top priority for the timetable after several cancellations and i cant realistically see them splitting the services anytime soon

Reliability on the trent valley is beyond a joke now.

Weekends - Don't even bother!
Weekdays - Get the train one hour earlier as there's a real chance your preferred one will be cancelled.

Off peak cancellations are one thing, but (as was the case yesterday) cancelling the 0937 arrival into Euston from the trent valley and 1646 departure to the trent valley is scandalous!

Stafford departures is - every other train is to London Euston now by a different route and calling pattern with last minute platform alterations adding to the confusion. Why no use of false destinations?

The cancellation on the via Stoke was nothing to do with the timetable. A driver went late notice sick

Because you could credibly use any of them to reach London based on your fare?

False destinations are a nuisance, particularly where there may be people with cheap Advances on the slower services. Just read the calling points and "via" on the PIS (they are putting "via Northampton" on the very-slows, aren't they? If not VT need a kick to do it).

With a simplified timetable that wouldn't knock on across the network for hours, though, it'd just knock on on one route until simply cancelling a round trip put things back in place.

The trains from lime street to london which join up with a crewe train at new street have a false destination on the network rail app. Stations are shown as far as birmingham new street sometimes when really they go to london

Ah, that'd explain it then, I saw two different ones. Was this because getting 350s out of NMP was awkward and those sets are Bletchley based?

Yes, there were no services north or south out of Northampton due to engineering work. So all the units at Kings Heath and at Northampton were effectively trapped. Thats between 30 and 40 4 car uints, hence the need to use the (normally weekend) stabled 319's on Sunday.

That's more likely cock-up than conspiracy. They are through trains and are sold as such. Except Sundays when everything seems to be split at New St.

The other half hour one only goes to International.

To be fair that one did, they coupled the 2 parts at Crewe and ran it 8 car from there so the only bit lost was the 'wobble'.
I wont defend the timetable but on this occasion it had no part to play.
