Looks to me like they could just be temporary seats to allow people to sit down when they are doing the testing.

WTF? They look completely different to any other 172s I've seen.
London Midland specified units with corridor connections, which is why they're different to the other 172s. It's a very sensible decision and I'm amazed that it wasn't done earlier on some of the other Turbostars given that Electrostars have been displaying the corridor fitted arrangement for a decade now.

Hmmmm… red seats on an LM train… are they secretly planning 1st class!
(no chance it's the Snow Hill Lines!)
As TEW says above me, they're probably just temporary seats that Derby had to hand at the time, to allow staff to sit down during training runs. There's just one seating bay behind the cab at each end as far as I have been able to make out, so they'll most likely be changed for the correct seating type as fitted to the rest of the 172/3s.

units that reach the 1000 miles will be passed for the road ,a couple are comeing up to this mileage soon ! and there are few drivers already passed out on them. i have been told true or false ? the press will be introdused to the class on august 2nd . and a start date for a few of the class on august 20th between snow hill and stratford .

Two 150s certainly were meant to be transferring to FGW around now.

whilst visiting Birmingham this week i have noticed that on the Snow Hill lines there has been 2x class 150/0 + class 153 combo:

1 set on the Dorridge - Stourbridge as there usually is.

1 set on the Great Malvern to Whitlocks End service, this combo has only been running about this week and is different units each day. Is there a reason why the Great Malvern to Whitlocks End service have a class 153 attached, or is this service suppose to be 2x class 150/1 units and they dont have enough spare so the 153 is making up the 4th car???

All help appreciated.

So far with the class 172 units i have seen 331, 332, 337, 338 & 341. Have any more arrived at Tyseley in the last couple of days and does anyone know which ones are sat outside at Derby as i saw two units when i passed Derby en route to Birmingham???

Have been told by a friend who is a guard on Snow Hill lines that the 172's will be phased in gradually from around the 2nd week in August.

Two sets are currently being used for training, one on Tysley depot for traction training, and one going out on test on the Stratford Line. These are being driven by driver managers along with having several staff on including a conductor coach, conductor's in training and staff from Bombardier monitoring things.

They have to be "run in" for 1000 miles before they can enter passenger service. This is why they will be run as ghost trains up and down stratford lines - stopping as if it was an actual service for staff familiarisation.

I am told LM is keeping some 150's namely my old friends 001 and 002!

Yes, I've heard it'll be those two as well; they suit their position on the Snow Hill lines - they'd be the odd ones out anywhere else. It says in the latest RUS (May 2011) that they recommend that some 150s stay.

Yes they would't fit in elsewhere. I suggested to a few people they could bring them up here to Lincolnshire but it didn't go down well due to the DKS switches only being at either end of the 3 car set! . . As soon as 172's come in on Snow Hill lines I will get down there and have a run out on one!:D

I don't need to go searching for them, they can come to me!

Yes, but if they went up north or somewhere else, the likelihood is that everything else is a 2 car unit and would mess with the diagrams. At least in Birmingham there are a lot of other 3 car units (170/6,172/3).

Plus a LM driver i know said apparently the fuel tanks on 150001/2 are smaller than the others. Its great going to SGB just to see the last stronghold of sprinters in the WM area!
