Hi all,
just wondering if anyone knows the workings for the London Midland 153 that is currently on loan to Northern Rail and has been spotted numerous times on the Caldervale Line.

Any timetables or information regarding it would be of great help as I have missed a video opportunity of the train several times in New Pudsey and I am desperate for a video!

Thankyou very much.

In theory it can go wherever a Northern 153 can go although it normally runs coupled to another unit due to it not having a wheelchair ramp fitted (I can't remember the exact circumstances behind its missing ramp though).

Going to say if you stand at Leeds you should be able to see it eventually.

yesterday (sun 11th) i travelled on the 09:54 from Leeds - Manchester Victoria, this service was formed of 155341, 153366, 153360.

155341 was leading out of Leeds, then 153360 leading after changing ends at Bradford. on arrival at Manchester Victoria 155341 detatched and formed the 1208 service back to Leeds, 153366 & 153360 then formed the 13:40 ECS to Newton Heath. It even advertised on the departure boards:

Plat 3, 13:40 ECS to Newton Heath T.M.D.
Calling at: Newton Heath T.M.D only.

Its a good job the 09:54 service from Leeds was 4 cars as by the time it got to Hebden Bridge all seats taken and standing room only from Todmorden all way into Manchester.

I caught the 14:08 back to Leeds which was formed of 158901 which was pretty cosy but no one standing, althought in our carriage 52901 the lights kept tripping into emergency lighting and the conductor having to reset them all the time.

London Midland have been generous with short-term loans of Class 153 this year. We were on holiday in Falmouth on the first week in August this year and a London Midland 153 was running the Truro to Falmouth Docks branch line service. I think that two of these are working the Cornish branch lines this summer.

Only Northern have 155 units and there aren't many of them left since they were disbanded into 153's years ago.

I suspect what you may have seen are the 150's that have been cascaded from LM to FGW (as well as other operators) due to the new 172's arriving

I think it is more likely that he ment the LM 153's which were annd still are at FGW.

I was on the 2100 Manchester Victoria-Clitheroe on Wednesday 24th August, which was formed of a 156 and said 153.

I have only seen it round WY once and that was on the Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend where it was working Leeds to Manchester Victoria. It came in to Dewsbury about 11:30 running first coupled to a Northern 153. First time I have seen anyone filming at Dewsbury station!

Thanks, Sam

I swear Northern are keeping it, and the 2x153s at FGW are going back...?

Can't remember the details but I think it is the case that the 153 at Northern is semi-permenant loan until the cascades and even then I'm not sure if LM will actually get it back. Sure I read somewhere about it but I may be wrong

FGW have got the 153s as part of the cascade and the Northern 153 is apparently going back
Thanks, Sam

It can't work on it's own due to disability issues and because it has 170630's? spare ramp while 143603 has the 153's ramp according to a friend, reasons unknown, but must have happened when the LM 153's went down to FGW and someone PLEASE find the 153, been searching for 2 days up here in WY and can't see it ! :(

Despite it meaning to be a Neville Hill unit while it is on loan, this London Midland 153 seems to be spending most of its time at Newton Heath, earlier this week I noticed it stabled at Newton Heath sheds and later on that same day I spotted it attached to a 150 operating 21:00 Manchester Victoria-Clitheroe service

The LM 153 has been in the NW for most of this week on Manchester Victoria-Cliteroe workings. It will be sent back to Neville Hill when it is next due an exam if not sooner.

ATW 150282 is also now on loan to Northern until October working out of Newton Heath.

How come LM spent money refurbishing these then when they are going to lose some of them?

The LM 153s hired by FGW have different ramps in them, they are just in the bike area and say Property of FGW or something like that on them.
