Cheers, I was wondering if they were the pillows from inside the seats  but that makes sense! Never knew that was done!

The introduction was interesting - typical Bombardier.

They couldn't get the units to accelerate properly, it was initially thought the engine was down on power, then someone botched exhaust back pressure testing and Bombardier thought it was going to have to design a (second) new exhaust system.

I think it transpired the gearbox wasn't set up properly, software or something, so it was always starting in the wrong gear. I can't remember but I think MTU and ZF intervened and spotted Bombardier's sloppy maths.

There are rumours a foot that Chiltern are having a look at some MK3 coaches on a certain ex MOD site in Warwickshire because they want extra trains but the lack of stabling space is an issue.

Isn't that why a depot is being opened at Banbury to create extra stabling on the Chiltern network?

Is there any reason why a tripcock would need to be fitted to a bogie, could it not be fitted to anything else, even something like the cab steps?

AIUI the trip cock is positioned ahead of the bogie and in line with the leading cab to put it in exactly the right position when the train is stopped at a signal. In this way it operates almost instantly if the train moves towards the signal.

It must physically align with the train stop (when raised) which is mounted in a particular position with respect to the track, the train stop cannot be nearer or wider because it must not conflict with anything else such as shoe gear on the side of an LU train. On curved track the end overthrow of the vehicle away from the rail would mean the trip cock would run just inside or outside of the train stop dependent on the direction of overhang.
