Any ideas what the ideas is behind this working? 1Z57 class 390 Pendo set timetabled for a 3hr 51 minute non-stop run from Euston to Glasgow. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:S00619/2021-06-17/detailed
Avanti West Coast is to attempt a record-breaking London-Glasgow run on Thursday, leaving Euston at 1036 and arriving Central at 1429, no calls on the way.
And this is exactly why the previous record could easily still stand. It's very unpredictable what will happen on the day. Thanks for that, if my experiences of northbound WCML expresses are anything to go by, chances are that it will get stuck behind a local somewhere between Carstairs and Central!![]()

and why can't we go on it?
Don't mean to be a downer but I've had a look at the path and, well, it looks "courageous"!
Less mass = better performance?and why can't we go on it?
I think things like this are kind of pointless unless they are actually going to run such a train in service in future.

Presume this must be a Preston driver, or driver manager?
Perhaps we should go back to the 17mph speed limit of the original Liverpool and Manchester?I think things like this are kind of pointless unless they are actually going to run such a train in service in future.
The last time this happened in 2006 there were two Preston drivers aboard but I believe that the same chap sat in the seat for the whole of the journey.
Just checking back, and the APT run was in December 1984, and it was 3hr 52min, but with one stop.
So Avanti by running non-stop are cheating then.![]()

IIRC for a while there was a service from London Euston-Glasgow Central that only called at Preston en route (either for convenience of passengers wanting that station and/or crew change). I can't remember how many there were each day, only that it doesn't run anymore. Some good publicity/attention never does any harm.
Just the one a day, in recent times.IIRC for a while there was a service from London Euston-Glasgow Central that only called at Preston en route (either for convenience of passengers wanting that station and/or crew change). The timetable has it at 3hr 53m?Any ideas what the ideas is behind this working? 1Z57 class 390 Pendo set timetabled for a 3hr 51 minute non-stop run from Euston to Glasgow. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:S00619/2021-06-17/detailed

I wonder if they'll allocate the Pride train on this service
No TSRs or conflicts then it should do it without much trouble. I have no doubt the word is out not to put anything in the way.Don't mean to be a downer but I've had a look at the path and, well, it looks "courageous"!
