Was looking at an old video and wondered when the following Lothian bus types were withdrawn.

Leyland Olympians from the early 80s ,y to c reg
E, J , M reg olympians
I believe the P reg ones went in 2009 and Ataleans in 2000

The E, J , M reg Olympians were still running when I moved to Edinburgh for University in 2004 they were gone by 2009 but don't know when exactly.

It was a gradual withdrawl of buses from about 2005, when some of the E reg buses were converted to Open top tour buses, until 2009 (I think) when the last of the Leyland buses were withdrawn that March, with the younger (P reg) Royale bodied ones going that August.

Ahh the Atlantean.... memories of my childhood.... I think that was pretty much the only Decker Lothian ran back then late 70's/early 80's .... it is certainly all I can remember til the ECW bodied Olympians came along followed by the Alexander bodied Olympians.

Ps. A gold star to anyone that can guess the year I was born from that information :p;)

61 dropped an electric Wednesday. Didn't realise the circuit went that far down into stockbridge. Seemed well loaded from around 3:30

I see , i seen a Youtube video from 2007 and there was J reg ones still running .

I found out that the C reg Olys made it to 2004 , in fact they went back into service .

Tridents are quite rare now . Is it just 04 plates left ?

Think the last 51 plate was over a year ago if not 2 .

As for the T , V , W and X tridents i cant recall when they were withdrawn

The last 51 plates to go were the ECB examples that left around a year ago

The T/V's that became open toppers I'm sure did so in 2007-2008, the remaining V reg's along with W/X's were withdrawn in 2011 (replaced by 351-400, 951-960), 567 and 572 I think lasted until 2012

Thank you for the more up to date information

The info was taken from http://glasgowbuses.000webhostapp.com/Lothian.htm
Which was updated as I stated on 07/09/18 which I'm aware is a month old and may well have have been out of date by time the updates were done and posted, but it was the most update info I had to refer to.

44 seems the best place to catch the last Tridents. Had 2 on it in the past week. 664 and 697 if I remember rightly. Atleast one had Airport style luggage racks on another occasion on Tuesday unsure on number middayish from Brunstane to Abbeyhill

The 3 and 200 are both operated out of Longstone ;)

.....as for my choices, I'll need to have a think, haven't really given it much thought before

How come so much hate for the 49?

The dog-leg section at Lochend is a bit tedious but I'm surprised to see all three of the first selections highlighting it as a "hated" route.

It suffers from some traffic blackspots, but then the same could be said of many routes - is it the lack of faster sections or a comment on the type of passengers who use it?

I personally dislike it cause it's a busy single deck route that takes 2 hours from end to end and goes through a lot of 'boring' places, it also goes the long way round from FK to RIE which is something that takes ages, you could walk it quicker

I don't "hate" any route persay however I do get fustrated with long winded routes so I tend to take the quickest route. Also, quietest. If quiet is a little longer than shorter, I take quiet.

Longstone (used to be the 35/300 easy direct link to work at the gyle from easter road and also to the carstairs line at slateford) now 400 (link from work to wester hailes for after work shots.
All 3 (I think) 44: Nice nature reserve at one end and can get to most rail routes aswell
Marine: 19, 26

ECB I either like or have never used (106) but 124/X24 and X7 are regular use and X7 especially is a great route.

A mix of both
Longstone: 30 (painfully long winded way to Musselburgh but handy when combined with a 44/26 for getting ahead of recessed trains at millerhill)
12 could be better (extended to Kings Road atleast or rerouted via easter rd to provide more gyle links)

On a similar note I much preferred it when the bulk of stuff went via waterloo place during the closure, Leith st is a massive bottleneck. 26/19/44 served London road well enough in my view. Thought or either 4/5 and 1 or 34 being rerouted that way permanently being a good idea?

Hate
21: its a painful choice for getting home

Very rare indeed now. Usually a couple running on the 21,25 and 44 Monday to Friday. Also can be found on the express evening services occasionally.
