:frown: aye and Longstone gets all the dregs of the fleet (aka the Ex-London tin buckets) in place of their B5LH's - not a good switch at all the seat spacing on those ex-London's are absolutely shocking and not a comfortable ride either - in fact, I'd say you get a far better ride on a 7900!!

GIVE LONGSTONE THEIR B5LH'S BACK!!

I’ve always had a much more comfortable ride in the ex London buses than the hybrids.

I'd say Longstone has one of the better fleets, mostly 600s, the 15 plate hybrids and the odd few Londons. Marine on the other hand, it's either ex Londons or the rattly Zoo B5s. And central have the bulk of the 300s which are getting on a bit, plus hybrids 1 to 10!

Other than the rattles, some buses having worst than others, I still think these are smashing smooth vehicles.
If they're similar to the Skylinks, they're okay ish to drive, brakes a bit touchy. The 18 plate G3 patch are pretty good but the 600s, XLB and hybrids are by far the smoothest buses to drive.

Absolutely. Much better to travel on than any B5 in the fleet.
Some, but not all ex-london's feel sluggish at times and not as enjoyable of a ride experience compared to a B5. This said from someone who has had B5's on local services in 2016, 7900's since 2013 & Ex-london B9's in the last few years and been on all potentially hundreds of times (I need to travel on buses on a daily basis). Obviously this won't match your experiences and is not fact.

I tend to feel like some of the Lothian Country ones (1040 and 1049 in particular) aren’t in the best state engine wise but the city ones seem to not be as bad.

I knew my comment would be controversial

On a hybrid I don't have to sit with my knees round my neck....haven't been on an ex London that I can actually sit comfortably on and the ones I have been on got bounced about like being on a trampoline.

My comments are based on my personal experience as a passenger, nothing more, nothing less

I guess that the seats are closer together. I always tend to sit downstairs at the back so I never noticed much of a space issue there but I haven’t used the seats further down much.

The experience will differ from person to person.

Exactly, Central in theory should have the best fleet but its the other way round, I wouldn't mind if all of the B5TL's burned in a fire, especially the zoo ones!

As in "Central should have the best fleet " or "Central should have the best fleet!"?

As in, Central should have the best fleet given the vehicles they've got, or [...] best fleet because it's Central?

As in, why should they have the best fleet?

Perfectly fine buses other than rattles, some worst than others... I'll be honest with you, if it weren't for them I wouldn't be on this forum right now! They do the job perfectly well, and look the part. You don't realise how smooth they are until you are standing on them.

I will say, They look fantastic, I think the B5LH's look absolutely immaculate, especially with the glossy paint jobs that Ferrymill have started doing just like the B9's! As you say some are worst than others, although the Hybrids are brilliant and B5TL's from 2014 are as well.

Have Lothian closed the Newbridge depot for Lothian Motorcoaches? I have driven past Longstone a couple of times recently and a number of Coaches are parked out back. I know they go to Longstone for maintenance etc, bit it's just weird that they seem to be there all the time.

No. Why are people questioning if X depot is closed or reading far too much into X vehicle of a group of companies is at another location for maintenance, repairs or repaint?

Is it true Border Buses are scrapping the 339? perhaps ECB could extend The 139 back to Gorebridge to compensate?

Yes it finishes on Saturday 1st October. I would imagine it’s either been cancelled permanently by Midlothian Council and replaced with nothing, awarded to somebody else, replaced by another route, or replaced with some form of Demand Responsive Transport. I’m not sure if any of those have been implemented but in any case it will be up to Midlothian Council as it’s a subsidised service.

I was always confused as to why Borders Buses wanted to run it as the dead mileage runs must be costly. The pandemic I suspect has taken that to a point where for all parties the current set up doesn’t work, and I believe this is when the contract was meant to end anyway.

Lothian Buses have posted info on how to get from Gorebridge to Bonnyrigg so I'd guess that there is some truth in it.

As for extending the 139, we come back to the standard problem of the current age - no driver resources to do it.
