The Sky Christmas ad features 4468 Mallard in action. Nice bit of CGI.

It's being shown on the terrestrial channels; I've seen it a few times in the past two - three weeks.
Bittern in disguise or not, the cabside number is 4468 and the nameplate Mallard.
Indeed, having seen the advert several times already on the tele it was immediately apparent from only a cursory glance that it was 4464 "Bittern" that was used, and a closer study of the version of the advert linked by the OP confirms this in every shot where the number is visible.Oddly on the version I watched there was no nameplate visible, but the cabside was definitely 4464 (at 0:22) and 4464 is more clearly shown on the shot inside the cab of the man with the big moustache at 0:24.
Which has been completely unnecessary in November when the advert has been shown.I'd not seen the ad before but its excellent, its started to make me feel all Christmassy.
Please, show me one screenshot where this is the case. I will assess my, admittedly limited, selection of hats for the one I would most prefer to eat if so.Bittern in disguise or not, the cabside number is 4468 and the nameplate Mallard.

That's a good point: The ghost of Christmas yet-to-come will no doubt be visiting me soon enough to show me an empty chair in the corner where Tiny Tim once sat, in order to coax me out of my uncharitable and miserly views towards his thread.Don't be nasty to Tiny Tim. It's Christmas! God bless us, everyone!![]()
I think that marshmallows would gum up the ashpan something awful.Thank you for adding the link to the advert. Bit daft but fun.
It set me wondering (in the mad way I do when I can't sleep) on the relative costs of running on marshmallows v coal.![]()
Aha! I have just seen one of the large billboard adverts for the same thing and the blue A4 featured on there IS named as "Mallard".Please, show me one screenshot where this is the case. I will assess my, admittedly limited, selection of hats for the one I would most prefer to eat if so.![]()
Boiler and firebox I understand however, as far as I aware the Museum don't wish to steam her again given the historical nature and by steaming her again, you will lose some of the originality of the locomotive from it's BR days. Personally, I think she should remain were she is as there are (and have been) other working A4's on the mainline. What kind of material condition is Mallard in these days? Would it take a lot of money/work to get her working again (a Flying Scotsman like rebuild for instance) or is she in reasonable condition?

Having noted this thread, I thought I would post an image of 4468 "Mallard's" last mainline journey taken Aug 1988 to celebrate her 50th Anniversary of her record breaking run.
