Are direct trains from Piccadilly to Scarborough ceasing in May? They seem to serve Victoria?

If so, do they start in Victoria or start in Liverpool or the Airport say?

Bit of a pain when travelling Stafford to Scarborough- change at Pic and Huddersfield.

Start at Liverpool.

Unfortunately that is one of the losers of this timetable change, although no offence meant, but Stafford Scarborough is certainly not a flow that should be protected! Not that you were suggesting as much. The only positive being that you could have a same platform change at Huddersfield or then change at Leeds or York too. There will be 4tph Picc to Huddersfield and Leeds (2 express 2 semi) and 2tph express to York.

If your priority is speed, you can change at Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly.

If your priority is ease of changes, you can just change at Liverpool Lime Street.

For example if you depart Scarborough at 1146 and change at Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly you arrive at 1524. If you change at Liverpool Lime Street you arrive at 1540.

One thing I do know is that I'm guessing from May the TPE 68 loco diagram starts and runs from Scarborough to Liverpool through Victoria.

You know, or you’re guessing? Or you know you’re guessing?

I know its going to be running but not sure when it will possibly after may timetable change.

P30 of this weeks issue of Rail Magazine says they will be used from May on Scarborough to Liverpool departures at 08:46, 09:46, 14:46, 15:46, 20:50 and 21:49 (terminating at Victoria). Liverpool to Scarborough departures at 05:56, 06:56, 11:56 12:56, 17:56 and 18:56.

There are a couple of early morning services from Scarborough to the airport which call at Man Pic, but I am totally unconvinced about the service for the rest of the day. Changing at Huddersfield isn't going to be popular, potential for missed connections and no doubt a scrum for the seats. I think routing service back to Victoria is a retrograde step. I travel to the NW from Scarborough once a week or so and I am not looking forward to the changes. Journeys will be more difficult.

The reason the services are now routed via Victoria (from 20 May) is:

1) speed up all the TPE Liverpool services (1h23m from Leeds)
2) avoid crossing over 6 tracks on the Piccadilly approach (delays other services when late)
3) Gives a 30 min frequency out of Liverpool for TPE instead of Train, 10 in wait, train, 50 mins wait.

Much better.

With any timetable change there are winners and losers. Some people will be happy, some not. It’s impossible to please everyone.

Plan has changed slightly - see the Mk3 thread

And inevitably it's those who lose out who make the most noise as they can see the immediate disadvantages, even if it is only once a week or so.

Sorry but not from a Scarborough or Hull journeys view point.
Surely that depends on where individual passengers are going?

Not everyone will be making the same trip as you, and many may well be quite happy with the changes.
