From what I've read elsewhere, it was apparently something to do with "paperwork routing issues"
Yes it was scheduled to run via Orpington but the units are prohibited through the Up Platform at Knockholt so had to wait for a possession to clear so it could run via the permitted route via Bat and Ball.

777005 and 777009 just arrived onto Kirkdale depot.
Quite surprised to see they carried out the reverse move at Bootle Oriel Road and Sandhills before the final passenger services had left these stations (first time this has happened, not even the first delivery back in Jan did this).
Rather tight with timings, but worked well with only a 3 minute delay incurred for the final Ormskirk departure of the evening from Sandhills.

I only just got it at Broad Green.
It was a fast bail off the 331s from
Lime Street.

Was running about 35 early.
Luckily it was held at Roby for about
10mins.
The weather was atrocious.
But it was nice to see though.

006 is the next train, no confirmed plan for unit numbers going forward yet but should be odds one week and evens the next. This is due to odds being built in Poland and evens being built in Switzerland

That would make 6 complete units at Kirkdale should it arrive.

Should be easy enough to spot them at the sidings at Kirkdale.

006 is a week Thursday so 23rd. And yes should be able to spot them at Kirkdale. Future unit's maybe stored near Southport due to space restrictions at Kirkdale. 003 should be heading to Crew for modifications so it's at the same specification level as 005 and 009 which will reduce the units by one for a while

Hall Road siding?

Any space at Birkenhead North for more than one 777 at the moment?

There is no space at Birkenhead for more than one 777. There is still no plan for the rest of the units, but the talk is Butchers sidings which is the non electrified sidings at Sth prt. The network can't take more than 68 units I think, and currently there are 64. 508134 when it leave the network will give on emote space . The problem is storing them safely from being graffitied
Which is why I don't understand why they demolised the cleaning shed and never rebuilt more sheds for stabling the new trains at Kirkdale depot. Southport sidings seems to be prone site for graffiti attacks of the current units. There is a spate of attacks going around at the moment.

I saw a presentation (https://www.liverpoollep.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Hein-van-der-Schoot-Stadler-Rail.pdf) from Stadler, from Nov. 2018, which gave a plan and timescale for the introduction of the new fleet. They stated, the maximum number of units as 76, which could be maintained on the network at anyone time.

Any news on when the first class 507/508 may depart and how, will it be a case of delivering a new unit(s) and transporting one of the old fleet away from the network?

Butchers sidings - would that be the sidings accessed from platforms 3 and 4 and formerly were used for DMUs?

And vandalism being from the footbridge between Virginia Street and Derby Road?

Anyone know the origin of the name?

Its not third rail though so it would have to be dragged there from hunts cross. Not very suitable for testing.

Butchers sidings at Southport seems likely as they were tidied up and the buffer stops painted earlier this year.

There was talk last year of them having to possibly set up a base at Southport for storage and maintenance of a small number (14?) of class 507/508 units they will have to retain for longer than originally predicted (possibly until 2022) on the Southport-Hunts Cross line until the work was undertaken to modify the platform lengths and signals due to issues caused when the 777s are used in an 8 car formation.

Anyone heard any further update on when these works to platform lengthening and signal moves may take place?

That's an old report but were not these problems foreseen when the trains were ordered? The platforms, as the article says, have been raised but nobody mentioned the signalling problem at the time (or didn't tell us the public). Anybody would think the present Government were directly responsible.

With the Covid delays they’d probably get away with keeping a few units now. As long as the signalling upgrades don’t also see a delay, though I understand NR were pretty fast at figuring out safe systems of work even during the height of lockdown, so hopefully there’s not a corresponding delay to push everything back.
