Well this is it. For me the delay isn’t what is frustrating it’s not knowing the real reasons why.
Considering that after 3 full years of the first 777 being delivered into the UK and still not in service.

I accept that the pandemic has certainly not helped, but this is still nothing short of an embarrassment to the region.

It's not driver open guard close. It's a unique method which involves the guard effectively giving the first tip by tapping a keyfob on a sensor then the driver doing the rest as per DOO.

The reality is that bus franchising is a bigger priority for the majority of the LCR population than the 777 introduction. Most people living within the LCR do not live on a merseyrail route, but do have bus provision.

Assuming by your username you must be aware of the severe cuts and the ever decreasing quality of bus services in and around Childwall over the last 10 years. From the collapse of more than half of Merseyside’s independent operators to frequency cuts on routes such as the 6, 61, 79, 79c and 81/A

Not exclusively.

There’s been other issues in the mix ranging from power supply issues (quite important), platform extensions as well as the usual issues that a new train brings such as snag lists and software issues
I am aware that a number of cuts have been made mainly the loss of both the Halton 14 and the 173, and the thinning out of the 79.

Liverpool echo providing more details on the testing of the battery operated 777's and the delay to their introduction - see attached link

At least this time the dispute with staff gets a mention, but I still can't work out what, given that guards have involvement in door operation, there is still to discuss? It appears just pure obstanance and pressure tactics to get more money

Fingers crossed TFW chip in to get some 777s on the Wrexham to Liverpool loop line.

The spokesperson said: "The region's new trains will be the most accessible, sophisticated fleet in the country - and will be owned by the people of the Liverpool City Region. Everyone is working around the clock to get the trains on the tracks as soon as possible, however, events beyond the Combined Authority's control over the past few years, such as flooding at factories and the Covid-19 pandemic, have delayed the roll out. Despite these setbacks, we’re working to roll the new fleet out as quickly and safely as possible.

The method of operation is changing for both drivers and guards. The guards role is a bit reduced, whilst the drivers role increases. So of course it requires negotiation with the unions to come to an agreement to handle the additional work and responsibility (remembering that a guard was jailed for his involvement in the events that led to a girls death).

Guards are signed up, drivers not yet but their second ballot results are due in the new year and if they've found common ground it won't be long before the new trains can actually start to roll out.

I see the Kirkby line is going down to 3 an hour again for more 777 testing from Jan the 9th
Why don’t they wait for the ballot result from ASLEF before implementing driver training paths again? Bearing in mind that the RMT deal did pass on the 2nd ballot it’s not necessarily unlikely though.

There was a report on another forum that 777140 was due to be delivered this week but was delayed. It's there any more information?
Apparently it's the first off the full IPEMUs - some others already delivered have batteries.

I’m not sure to be honest it’s a bit odd. My guess would be that maybe they need data from the tunnel sections as they seem to have mainly stopped at Sandhills? Also I wonder if the current diagrams on the Southport line will be used as driver training ones also maybe

Guards (RMT) have settled. ASLEF are awaiting their ballot on a second offer.

There are tweaks here and there with conditions, but there is no increase in pay in this offer compared to the first.

When they originally went down to 3tph on the Kirkby line for 777 running, they were doing the "full" diagram, including all the way to Central and back.

From what I understand, the pay offer wasn't the issue, it was the changes to the drivers terms and conditions that was the issue.

777008 has been running up and down the Southport line to Sandhills/Kirkdale and back today. It sports the new METRO front end branding as seen on 777049, but also features the new ‘M’ logo at the side of each carriage with the multicoloured spots as seen on the MetroCard and the newly rebranded totem pole at Newton-le-Willows.

I really hope they don't put the Metro branding on the front of all of the units, it looks so out of place on the front

Has it been agreed that merseyrail could rebrand as metro as seen on these 777s?

Are the public behind this? Are the people outside of Merseyside that bothered? Who on earth decides on a rebrand at a time of recession, but then its easy when it's other people's money

If it is like 777049's it is hardly a rebrand. A small vinyl "M Metro" on the front. What's that going to cost - £10 or £20 per unit?

I think there are bigger things to worry about regarding this sad saga than a small vinyl applied to the front of the units.

The trains have been running around in plain black and yellow livery, and would have had some branding applied at some point no matter what. What difference does it make whether it says "Metro" or "Merseyrail"?

Staff at Merseytravel have referred to the network as the Merseyrail metro for years.

Agreed, the vinyl on the train wont cost much.

But, replacing all the signage at stations, online, on uniforms , in advertising etc all adds up

Everything needs a good lick of paint these days. Some stations are particularly grotty.

Yes it looks that way. The driver's referendum on the deal closes on 17th January 2023.

It's not the name that I dislike, but the placing of the logo, it just doesn't look right on the front of the units.

It should be put on the side.

Have they? The first time I seen / heard this. I think there are more important things than attempting to rebrand or what ever. Likewise better ways than spending un-neccessary money on something like this assuming it is going across the whole Merseyside network too, not just Northern and Wirral lines. What makes a proposed rebranding to 'Metro' makes any different to any UK location that uses the same name. It is Merseyrail (or misery rail as also known from the past) and that is it, why change as will not make any difference as all people want is a regular reliable service with very few cancellations. Simple!

Merseyrail traditionally encompassed all rail in the area including Lime St services, with Merseyrail Electrics being the third rail bit. With wires up at Lime St I guess it needed a new name :)

That means it takes them 50 years to really think of that (won't include 1960's to the 70's)!:lol:.

I wonder what the recommendation was this time to the members?
Yes sometimes a pay deal cones with a recommendation to accept or a recommendation to reject, but from what I can see, on this occasion there isn't a recommendation either way.

Was on a liverpool bound train passing Kirkdale depot yesterday, and one of the new trains had the multi coloured metro stickers at the ends of each carriage
