I think everyone is in for a big shock, my friend who works at Kirkdale has shown me a pic of a 777 vinyl wrapped blue and covered in balloons/hearts for Eurovision. Beyond hideous.

I don't know if it's worth me adding this in after my last post about 777005 being at New Brighton in the stabling sidings but I drove past there at about 15:10 this afternoon and noticed that 777005 is no longer there.

I don't know if it was put on driver training or whether it has been transferred back over to Kirkdale depot.

New Brighton is apparently the next line the 777's are being introduced on.

It was at West Kirkby at 15:47 (saw a picture in a different forum)

It keeps changing between the New Brighton and the Chester lines. Both have pros and cons!

It was purely for storage. However theres a platform clear out over night at New Brighton at the moment for platform work meaning the sidings there have to be utilised for the current stock.

I have known about this since beginning of the month but not my place to mention it unfortunately. Certainly brighten some locations on the system!

Eurovision will be a massive event locally so well done Merseyrail for celebrating it.
Local bus company Arriva has a bus in service in a Eurovision livery, and I would not be surprised if Stagecoaxh did not follow suit.

But if they do the shorter lines first, they can turn around and say "we've converted 4 lines to 777 operation" in a much shorter time.

But then the Chester lines would mean an all stations service (ie not skipping Green Lane/Bromborough Rake) could be reintroduced quicker. Depends which ones arguably the bigger 'winner'.

I sense that this is being said in a cynical way, but it’d be entirely true and fair enough if they did say that. It’d be different if they were all branches operated by a single unit.

Can I ask please if there has been any news on when the next deliveries will be commencing in order to keep the service levels up before we end up short of serviceable stock ?

There are 2 battery units due to be delivered soon. Don’t know the exact dates or timings though.

I think there are still 5 777s in Southport that still need to bought into service with at least another couple of non battery Kirkdale based ones. 005 on the Wirral too :)

The plan was always to convert Kirkby, Ormskirk, New Brighton and West Kirby before the longer run to Chester and finally Southport-Hunts Cross. It makes sense to build up reliability and use 777s firstly on routes that pass Kirkdale Depot and then on the two services that pass Birkenhead North. That makes substituting sets a simpler matter if required.

Just four at Southport now. Today, 777002, 777006, 777012 and another at the far end nearest to Meols Cop.

Two extra 507/8s are stabling at Southport additionally, bringing the total 50x per night to 12 (10 scheduled), presumably to free up space on Kirkdale.

Haha I’ll write it again tomorrow if that helps.

Should post a note of caution to say it would still be a few months before any rollout like this could take place, it certainly wouldn’t be an overnight thing. (But it means certain lines may see 777 passenger services much earlier than originally envisaged).
Has there been any updates on this :)

Wonder how long the vinyls will stay on after the event has passed... Will it still be running around in five years like 185108 was?
