The pedantry in this hobby knows no bounds!

I will continue to enjoy the Merseyrail PEPs until they are no more

PEP-derived or just 507/8s works fine. They are not prototypes, so they aren't 'PEPs'.

Spot on. Not PEPs but if he wants his few minutes of fame so be it. I have ridden all 76 Class 507 /508 from when they first arrived and in that time never a PEP.
To me Pep is a football manager down the East Lancs Road!

Ridiculous or not, that is your thought and opinion, which I will respect, exactly in the same way you should respect mine.

With regards to your question, the answer is still NO. You just don't get it do you, they are just Merseyrail EMU's, Units, Class 507's, or Class 508's, but never been called PEPs! Shall we move on. :)
Agreed - travelled on 507/8s all my life, I've never called them PEPs, never will do and I've never heard it locally.

At the risk of pointing out the bleedin' obvious, the words "prototype" and "production" both start with the same letter so surely we can find an easy compromise here that would mean we can get back to just providing updates on what is and is not withdrawn in terms of the class 507 and 508 units before we all incur the wrath of the moderators...? :)

Have the scrap units moved from Shrewsbury this morning after the failure the other day?

Can't see anything in RTT for a move to Sims today so guess the PEP's haven't moved yet. Of course that could change at any time with (V)STP's existing, but as of now I can't even see an inbound loco working to Shrewsbury

Confirmed by my friend who lives in Shrewsbury that 507005/508127 are still at Shrewsbury on the Up Main line.

Just got off 507017 at Chester, displays reverted to Not in Service on arrival and it's 1245 CTR-CTR is cancelled, the following working will start at Rock Ferry to Chester via Liverpool. Presumably a fault of some description although everything seemed normal onboard!

Shrewsbury (5/7/23) Have they had their shoes removed for the 3rd rail because I couldn't see them?

508117 currently sat in Kirkdale with the rear lamp attached at one end. Is this a sign it’ll be gone sooner than the September estimate posted on the previous page?

It broke down with 507004 this morning on the 0906 Hunts Cross - Southport. I doubt it's finished just yet unless one of its parts went bang. They're short of units yet again.

A poster on another forum has informed that 508138 was withdrawn yesterday awaiting a final journey to Sims.

Are last week's pair still at Shrewsbury?

37884 off to Shrewsbury later today to take 507005/508127 to Newport at some point.
37884 is conducting a double reaper job today then having already taken a pair of 321s to meet their demise

507009 still going for anyone interested. It formed the 1706 Hunts Cross - Southport service this evening in the company of 507015.

508138 noted in shed at Birkenhead North this afternoon, not coupled to another unit, just alone at the back. 508125 and 507003 also visible. There were a couple more inside but didn't catch numbers.

Update on the units at Shrewsbury: I'm at Shrewsbury currently, units are still here and 37884 started up about 20 minutes ago, Network Rail staff are doing something with the coupling on the 37, I can't make out what. There is a driver in the cab of the 37

Another update from Shrewsbury : 37884 is now coupled to the units but to the North of them, looks like they are going to Crewe South Yard later today perhaps

It looks like a 6 car set was stabled in platform 3 at Hooton overnight which is quite rare. Perhaps due to the 777s occupying platform 4 at Rock Ferry.

I recall that the stabling of units on running lines is mentioned in the sectional appendix and is permitted at certain locations on the network providing tail lamps are present.

Overnight possessions at Rock Ferry, Chester and West Kirby meaning Hooton had to be used.

Interesting to see the long gone Hooton signalbox still on that map!
