Is there much to do right outside of MKC? Pehaps a shopping centre or anything?

I have a one hour connection there so time to kill. I am on an Advance ticket but was thinking of asking permission to go outside due to the long connection when I get to the gateline? Are gateline staff on duty there always?

They let me out for a cigarette once but that was only 5-10 minutes. I'm not sure if anything is nearby though

I've not been there very often, but I don't remember there being that much. There are a few small shops but that's about it.

There is a Wetherspoons about a 10 minute walk away.

There is also the massive MK1 shopping centre around 20 minutes away.

Given Ive got only 60 minutes to play with it would have to be somthing within, say no more the 10 minutes walk from the station, otherwise I'd risk missing my next train - which is not an option with an Advance ticket.

Worst case is that I just stay in the platform area.

Not much immediately outside the station area.

There's a few small shops - M&S Simply Food, Greggs etc. iirc. Staples is about a 5 minute walk away as is Argos and a new Morrison's in the other direction.

Network Rail's new office a short walk away too!

Yep that is as exciting as it gets. Your best hope is that your first train is 55 minutes late ;)

You can take a bus to the shopping centre (which by the way isn't MK1, that's by the stadium). But I probably wouldn't bother. Food trip to Morrison's might not be a bad idea though. Or if you're into the outdoors there is a big Cotswold and Go Outdoors nearby plus McD and BK - turn left out of the station.

I have never heard of someone being refused access through any barrier while having time to wait for their next connection, by the way.

Thanks guys. Yes, it seems like there is enough simple stuff to get to keep me going. The trip to the shopping centre might risk missing my connection.

just walk straight up the hill to the Weatherspoons, 5-10 minutes, have a pint, walk back. Job done.

There is a couple of Indians in the station area if you fancy a meal.

Sounds like a plan! If serving time is not too long is Spoons, could even get a meal too, but a couple of beers sounds like a great idea! Thanks!

Didn't know there was a wetherspoons there, Which way is up the Hill? I usually come out into a big flat square of glass buildings and haven't ventured much further than Greggs for breakfast.

come out of the station doors and walk in a straight line - it is a street or two beyond the vast Santander building.

(It is Midsummer Boulevard to give the road its correct name)

To get back to the station come out of the Wetherspoons doors and walk in a wobbly line.

That and the stupidly named "intu", nee Midsummer Place, next to it.

An awkward amount of time I would say. I lived there for a year, though I think a few bits have changed since. I did once spend an hour sat on the station after just missing an hourly service by seconds - tad tedious although interesting watching all the passing services

there are intu's all over the place now, i think they used to be capital shopping centres. It is a silly name though

They don't even use the obvious pun in advertising them. I saw "let's go to Intu Watford" on a poster, which sounds silly.
