Hello everyone, I am posting this to thank everyone on here who provided help and support. As I have just qualified as a Train Driver. For those trying there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and I hope it's a green one

Well that's my first few trips solo, what an amazing feeling, it doesn't feel like work! I am very lucky to be in this position. It does take a lot of hard work and a liberal pinch of luck. But it is the best thing that I've done in my life.
I'm pinching myself, that I've actually got this career

Well done, enjoy it!

Out of interest, is overtime and rest day working generally available, or does it depend on if the union have banned it at your TOC?

Would a newly qualified driver be more likely to obtain rest day working as they may be cheaper to pay?

RDW depends on company, some allow it, some don't. RD's are supposed to be evenly split but as a newbie you will generally sign less routes/traction (depending on depot of course) so if anything are less likely to get RD's. Gettig paid less doesn't come into it at all.

Rest day working is split evenly where i'm at. So if you've done 10 rest days and someone else has done 9, they would get offered it (unless someone else who has done 7 wanted to work it - you get the picture!)
