Just wondered, Would the class 333 be better suited on long distance route such as Chester - Manchester - Leeds once its electrified or other electric long distance service instead of converting them into metro style train?

I also came up with an idea with the so called Northern Connect service as well as other service, see what you all think.

The hourly Leeds/Bradford to Manchester Airport be extended to Birmingham International via Crewe and Wolverhampton.

two or three trains a day Liverpool Lime St - Windermere

Southport - Leeds and Leeds - Lincoln merge into one service.

2 hourly Carlisle - Manchester Airport via settle & carlisle line, Chilteroe, Blackburn and Bolton with a 2 hourly Carlisle - Leeds with some extended to Hull giving a hourly between Carlisle and Settle.

Stoke on Trent - Manchester - Liverpool via Warrington.

What do you think?

So 333 have 3 plus 2 seating why would they suitable longer distance services? they are already metro in many respects.

Ok you could alter them but Northern will be getting new electric trains which will meet the Northern Connect Standard so why bother.

As for putting them on Chester - Manchester - Leeds well to my knowledge this route via the Calder valley isn't approved for electrification and given the cost and delays to the current approved schemes I doubt it will be happening anytime soon, and as for extending to such as Birmingham International that not part of the Northern Franchise remit is it, are there any other random places you would like to send Northern train to?

On Friday during the course of my work I had to catch a Train from Stockton to Seaton Carew, well Stockton Station highly depressing a couple of Bus Shelters within the walls of the old Station, no ticket office or Ticket Machine, up rolls a 142 complete with original Bus style seats on the basic hourly service, I guess I could have been in 1990 but its 2016 so lets concentrate on Northern Transforming the current services rather than fanciful ideas about running all over the place and merging this service with that service.

Thanks I will, I'm sorry if you don't like my attitude but your post doesn't seem to be well thought out. I don't see much point in merging Southport and Lincoln services in any case you would be merging a connect service with a non connect service. If your travelling from Sheffield to Southport for instance its likely to be quicker to go direct to Manchester rather than a scenic trip to Leeds and then the Calder Valley.

Why on earth would I travel via Warrington if I wanted to go from Stoke to Manchester? No thanks! Please don't go off in a huff again ..... although you could start yet another new thread, as this appears to be your "raison d'être".

Quality, not quantity :|

Recreation of Central Trains in the north?. Instead of Yarmouth-Barmouth Railway, its the Southport-Lincoln railway

Really? It's not like he's criticizing your idea, he might even like 333s as much as you do, he's just being realistic and sticking to the facts. I was actually quite surprised by this comment as I see no sort of attitude in 47802s posting. Or if there has to be attitude, it's an attitude of bringing useful facts that you could learn from. In all, he's just making sure you don't go off believing in this and later find your disappointed that the 333s don't go onto your desired route. Of course, it's sometimes ok to make a fantasy suggestions but they are not to believe.

Any train can be made into a high quality Northern Connect style train. Look at the 333s older brothers and sisters the 332 with Heathrow Express same train but a high quality interior.
'IF' they did become long distance units with new high spec interior we would need some more trains in metro config seems a bit pointless really

Why bother? What about pathing and capacity issues on the already-congested west coast mainline? People from Leeds can catch Crosscountry services to Birmingham and change to a bham airport service there and Mancunians can either get Virgin WC or XC direct services to Birmingham International.

As for Bradford, is there much demand for services to Birmingham airport?

What? When did pointing out the flaws in a suggestion become 'attitude'?
There was absolutely nothing wrong with your post.

I believe a large amount of the Asian community choose to leave from Birmingham for one reason or another... Air India and Pakistan Air both fly there, Biman occasionally fly charters to and from there instead of Leeds-Bradford for some reason.
