Couple of 144 moves taking place tomorrow!

144017 off to its new home in Scunthorpe - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/50264/2020-08-27/detailed

And 144012 heading up to Heaton to join its fellow 142s and 144s currently stored there - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K01039/2020-08-27/detailed

Spotted 144017 passing through Bingley this morning - from a distance... Interesting livery on the rear vehicle, graffiti remedy I assume.

Friday Pacer move - 144009, 144022 and 144003 worked 5G01 KWVR to Worksop

Distant photo shows the units passing through Bingley.

According to RTT the trio of 144s seems to be stuck at Shireoaks.

Is the Worksop working a final run to the Scrapyard?
144003 is set to be preserved at Ruddington. Not sure about the other two, but I thought all 144s had homes in either preservation or other uses (e.g. fire service training units).

142087 has been out on the Hope Valley route today. Caught me by surprise at Dore and good to see about 20 boarding the 4 coach train.

Spotted two this afternoon at Piccadilly, coupled with a 150/1, working the New Mills Central route.

144009 now temporarily at Bury on the ELR. Will eventually end up with Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue.

UPDATE - 144022 now up in bonnie Scotland! Went by road today to the Keith & Dufftown Railway to join their resident 140!

Glad to see no.22 saved, as it was the last holdout on my first completed class for sight.

However given where it's going I do hope they aren't planning to gut it to get the 140 going*, even though it's not the last/only one of its type unlike 140001.

*= To be honest I've no idea if that's even relevant, don't know how much stuff on the 140 is the same on the 144s what with them between them being the beginning and end of the Pacers.

The 140 was the experimental pacer if you want to call it that. I don't know exactly how many parts are similar, but the 141 which saw the shortest career of all and I think was binned off via Cascades from the Aire Valley electrification etc was the next stage up so one wonders if they were the most similar. Further similar upgrades saw the 142, then 143 and 144 classes. They certainly differ in more than just bodyshells and over time at least 142s (if not all the classes had modifications and upgrades that changed them from production condition). I've noticed the 144s have been very popular with buyers. 141s (operated by a previous incarnation of Northern) mostly ended up in Iran, with a few exceptions, but fell to bits after a few years pounding with commuters and potential limited maintenance knowledge, parts shortages etc. No idea if any/all are scrapped now but within not many years the first pics of 141s collecting rust and rotting away had got online. Probably a few swear words from Iranian rail officials towards Mr Parcell who flogged them a job lot in one go at a profit and set up a small rail empire with the proceeds.

142 018 / 142 070 / 142 094 passed through Manchester Victoria bang on time at 20:08 this evening moving from Heaton to Newton Heath.

Also noted today:
142 004 / 090 on Newton Heath
142 058 on Kirkby service
142 065 on Rose Hill diagram
142 078 on 16:20 New Mills diagram.
Sadly 16:49 to Sheffield didn't produce a pacer.

Have any Class 144s been scrapped yet. I thought that they were either in storage or had been sold for further use. I ask because I've just seen some Class 144 seats for sale on ebay. Comfy?

Hi
Not heard if any pacers for a while heading for scrapping at Sims metals and the like. Are the scrap yards not working?
Thanks
K

No Pacers currently due to go for disposal. 142051 was the last one to bite the dust back in June
