By my reckoning there are 12:
003 / 007 / 009 / 014 / 028 / 032 / 034 / 046 / 049 / 056 / 060 / 089 assuming 062 was the middle set of todays convoy. Can anybody confirm that it was ?

Many thanks.
I've got them, with the addition of
053, 048, 038, 031, not sure if they're still there or if my records are out of date

As the Worksop stored 142s seem to allocated to various private or preservation groups I suspect they will depart by road and may not appear in here.

Given a number of the recipient railway's don't have a mainline connection, I'd have said it was a racing cert they'll be shipped by road - both the EKR and Rushden aren't mainline connected.

not sure about Rushden but a pacer can’t even get close to the EKR by rail as 142 are heavily restricted the nearer they get to London.

Don't know if they're cleared to Leicester as that would make sense as a route to EMR Kingsbury - unlikely to have been cleared south of Leicester on MML as no call for them to do so.

Just moving along slightly, are the Class 144s in considerably better condition then the 142s?

Just wondering why the 142s are being sent off to scrap with the 144s having the derogation when less crew sign 144s than 142s.

my gut feeling is that the 142s are the ones that were on the news and target of the disdain, whereas the similar 144s weren’t in the firing line in quite the same way?
The original plan was for the 144s to start being withdrawn first, in part because they have a smaller operating area and fewer depots sign them... With all the delays and the way the derogations work, their limited area now works in their favour as the derogations for the units are on specific routes and services.

The rust thing might also be a factor but it won't be the main one.

Aren't they dispensations...? I believe that more modern stock with minor non-compliance issues has received derogations, which I understand to be a more long-term exemption from compliance with law.

Actually on the topic of the withdrawn units, are any preservation movements thinking about acquiring the bench seats from the 142 being scrapped? The reason I ask is that the 143/4 sets that are up for preservation will come with their current interiors. It'd be great to see some of these retro fitted to as new condition, bus seats and all. I really liked the 144s pre-refurb, it'd be nice to experience that again rather than the current claustrophobic environments they have.

From memory, the bus bench seats fitted to 144s when new were of a slightly different design to the 142s. I think that they had more of a slope on them.

It would make sense that they'd be a bit different. At that time I think bus body manufacturers still used their own seat designs, in which case there would be differences. I can't remember the specific details though.

The seat difference to the Class 142s is only very slight. Therefore, someone wanting to restore a 144 to original condition using 142 bench seats would be able to get away with it.

The electrics on a Pacer are only slightly more advanced than they were on the Titanic and all control voltages are 24v. It almost certainly wont be terminal (pun intended). At the worst probably just some relays needing swapping, anything more delicate (TPWS, OTDR, GSMR, TCA, throttle timing units, brake control unit) is fairly modular.

We are delighted to say that 142019 and 142020 will be joining Pacer demonstrator unit RB004 at the Waverley Route Heritage Association. We will be collecting them from Worksop in the next few weeks and look forward to welcoming them in their new home.

They are the ones 028 came with. Driver told to take it off. Could It have a safe future

Could there be a chance that Chasewater (who else) has decided to aquire a fouth unit, considering that they have already got 142027, 029 and 030. Its the obvious choice to complete the collection with 028.

I'm just waiting to see.

The GWR class 143.603 side swiped by a wave at Dawlish took out 3 window units

https://twitter.com/Richard_rail/status/1217861924282667009

https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/waves-smash-train-windows-at-dawlish.198525/page-2#post-4389121

Will it be repaired or replaced by a Northern unit?
Unlikely to be replaced if it's decided uneconomic to repair. GWR no longer sign 142s and that's all that's available from Northern. Even if 144s were available, AIUI they're distinct enough from 143s that crews would need a conversion course. Different ride height too IIRC.

Quite a few technical differences between 143s and 144s, especially under the solebar.

In fact some of these seats survive in a class 103 set.

How many of the surviving Northern 142s actually make it out in service on a day to day basis? Are they mostly concentrated around Man Vic?
