Sad reading all this about Pacer withdrawals.
Looks like Cardiff could be the last haven
for those who enjoy them.
I take it Northern have replaced train for train during their withdrawal.
Pacers do have their own charm though.

Pacers do have their own charm though.

Although Pacers have two steps, the first one is lower to the platform than on 150s etc and the train-platform gap is narrower. It is a lot less likely that anyone could fall down the gap boarding a Pacer. I have seen it happen twice with 150s at Wigan Wallgate over the years. My 80 year old mother has no trouble boarding Pacers, but finds it daunting boarding 150s and even the new units at certain stations. For example the Leeds facing station at Todmorden, Salford Central and last week alighting a 331 at Garswood. She also finds the PRM automated announcements a real nuisance. I too am not as agile as I used to be, and struggle at times boarding them owing to a previous lower back injury.

I don't think that the speed of Pacer withdrawals is helping anyone. The 195s and 331s have only been in service for a few months and are still a bit of an unknown quantity. There are still problems with the doors closing on passengers. If it turns out to be a cold winter, there could be unexpected teething problems with the units.

Anyone know of a second hand market for pacer engines or are they being scrapped too?

The Cummins L10 engine was used in most late 1980s built Leyland Olympians and Lynx buses and was an option in the Volvo Olympian until 1993. Maybe the engines from Pacers could be of use to bus preservationists and certain body parts for Leyland National buses.

The Sheffield to Worksop hasn't left yet, but to be fair we're still less than half an hour after the scheduled departure time.

If my memory serves me right, it hasn't run at all this week. I'm left wondering if there are any 142s left to take the Sheffield path up or if they're all elsewhere?

Dmu engines are usually the Horizontal version often as used on single deck buses so being less common not as saleable.
Back in the era of all good engines being Gardener on retirement buses so equipped had there engines exported to Hong Kong where they were fitted to junks and presumably ran for ever.

About time the rubbish was removed from the railway
If you were referring to Class 150/1s I'd agree, as the claustrophobic nature and noisy engines on these get me very stressed and anxious when travelling on them.
I have read on another thread that following withdrawal of most 142s in the new year, most services on the Atherton line will be cut back to single units. This is a step back to how it was 7 - 10 years ago (except worse as more travel on the trains now), when the old Northern franchise took on extra units to cope. The overcrowding situation helps no one whether they have reduced mobility or not.

Should be just 9 after 01/01/20, all of which need to be coupled to a PRM-compliant unit. Question is, which 9?

I'm guessing it'll be the remaining 14208x and 09x batch (five from one and four from the other) since these seem to be the better units.

The 142s really need to be kept on (preferably coupled to a PRM compliant unit) until sufficient capacity is available. I was disappointed to find there's been a reduction in capacity with the new timetable, and I agree no one benefits from overcrowded services

Totally agree, always hope for a 142 or 156 when getting the train

142012/142033/142079 stored at Landore TMD

142086 being stripped for parts at Cardiff canton
the three ex-Northern 142s that went to Wales on the 15/12/19 for use by TfW for spare parts were 142086, 142012 and 142079. This is the first I've heard of 142033; I'm guessing it moved some day after...?

Exactly, then the train has 4 cars also, which is a good look.
