I was wondering if there was any idea when these sets were set to enter passenger service. Much as I’d very much love to travel on the current V Sets (the H “Oskar” sets less so), I’m keen to try them out while I’m living in Sydney between January and June.

Any information would be gratefully received.

I am not sure when they will enter service as i am pretty sure the reason for the delay is due to a dispute with the unions. So i guess whenever they sort out the issues with the unions. I think the unions had some safety concerns over these new trains. The latest information i could find is that they were supposed to enter service in December 2022 but that has still not happened so i guess the unions are still in dispute over these trains and nobody really knows when that will be sorted.

Having been periodically reading news over on railpage .com . au , it doesn't appear that the 'blacking' of the trains has ended nor the safety concerns regarding DOO operation resolved.

Are these trains actually still planned to be DOO? I know they originally planned for them to be DOO but i was not sure if that was still the plans as i thought that they have agreed to keep Guards onboard?

I read that one of the issues is that the cab doors have to be shut while the train is moving. So the train will be unable to move with the cab door open. Currently on all trains the Guard keeps the rear cab door open and looks out as the train enters and leaves the station to make sure the platform is safe (i am surprised this is allowed as in the UK our Guards are strictly banned from doing this) but on the new trains it will not be possible. So i thought Guards were being kept but this was the main issue currently.

The dispute with the unions has been resolved. Modifications will be made for 2 persons operating. These will take some time and significant expense. The stop marks at all stations will also need to be changed. The first sets in service will probably be around Easter.

No D Sets are in service but a New XPT Driving Carriage aka a HST has entered service Number 2019 i'm assuming this is a rebuilt 2018 after the fatal crash?

Power Car 2019 is indeed the rebuilt (and renumbered) former 2018.

Thats odd as wouldn't they only need 2 for a return trip??

Strong Rumours the D Sets will commence testing again with DOUBLE GUARDS in the coming weeks on the CCN

Edit also of Note and i guess relating to D Sets The BMT line is back Open after the freight accident. 15000 sleepers where replaced and the bustitution between Blacktown and Bathurst has Ended. although some trains ran as far as springwood

2 aboriginal liveried D sets have just been hauled by an SSR loco through kingswood at 12:40 lunchtime heading city bound. They featured 9310 and 9410 on the carriages.
