One of the Virgin Pendolinos question!

So when you see 390044 with it's eight unit formation at the moment due to problems with one of it's first class cars as far as the bogie wheels are concerned, please feel free to come back to me and say that

My understanding is that the only vehicle that can be removed from a Pendolino for it to run in 8 car formation is the middle standard coach (TSO 688xx) as it is the only unpowered / non pantograph vehicle in the set. This is why 390004 returned in 8 car formation as it was this vehicle that was damaged.

Also, if it was a bogie issue why wouldn't they just do a bogie swap! Far easier than removing a vehicle and reprogramming the computer for a shorter formation!

I assume a bogie problem could arise due to the tilting mechanism, the complicated nature meaning if a problem arises and it could be repaired in time and the Pendo gets shoved back into service minus a car...

I'll feel free to say it again now if you so wish, as I didn't say you were wrong then and I'm obviously not saying you're wrong now. It being the case that there is an 8 car Pendolino doesn't change the fact that you handle people disagreeing with you on this forum VERY badly. Actually, he was blatantly called a liar on two occasions that i can see, and plenty of other occasions when people hinted he was. I cant say im that surprised how he responded.
The people that said things like "your wrong, accept it", have responded just as badly as he has.

Somebody has asked you about an 8 car pendolino they saw, and because you havent been able to see any evidence of it (whether a picture, or reports elsewhere), some people have come out rather rudely towards him, even though he has kept telling you he was genuine.
People still kept disbelieving him, and people still reacted rather rudely to him. His reaction is quite understandable.

Thats highly unfair. From what i recall he admits the voyager may not have been the service train, and could have been an ECS. He admitted as much, and it was left at that.

If Wikipedia is correct and based on what you and others have said, only the TS standard class coach (68801-68853) could be removed without disrupting the performance of the 9 car set as seen on the 390 that had the damaged coach as a result of the collision at Oxley

Could you authoritatively tell us where that information comes out from?

IPT, I think you need to realise that some people on this site work in the industry, and some people work with Pendolinos every single day.

The customer services staff are telling you any old rubbish (probably to get rid of you) - what they have told you can not physically be true because you can't just go removing a first class carriage from a Pendolino as has been explained, with technical reasons.

I suspect this thread is just to get some attention sadly.

I can conclude that:

There are NO 8-car Pendos reported

390044 definitely has 9 cars

390044 was nowhere near Manchester on 10/04/11

390044 was at Euston at 15:21 between 1M07 PRE-EUS and 1G32 EUS-BHM

IPT - I travelled on the 13:11 Virgin service Wilmslow to Euston last week. Virgin are short of stock, so we 'ad the NRM's 'Rocket' and MoSI's 'Planet' double-heading a train of brake vans. It's true! Honest! I was there!

If you're quick, you might catch these locos while still in Virgin colours, before they revert to L&M!

Personally, I think the way this situation has been handled by almost every poster is out of hand. This forum is meant to be a community, but when we have members bashing or humiliating others for errors, it makes it into a 1-sided argument, and what does that show on our guests?

Yes, its an error, there are no 8-car Pendolino's running about, but if people hadn't jumped at the first sign to have a go at the OP, this thread wouldn't be such a mess. I actually think it just shows this forum in a negative light, especially as its an active forum.

Woah lads, fair enough IPT did miscount, but he did come on here originally to query something, which is of course what we are here for. I don't think comments like the above are needed, it just fuels arguements.
