Reminds me of when I was on work experience, loads of birds got caught in the area surounding the couplings on the 168s - there was a special bin to put them in just outside!

next time your in penzance station, take a gander (no pun intended) at the lines inbetween platforms 2 and 3, there is a nice mass of feathered mush on the ballest. and you can roughly tell where trains stop, and if trains have to go into the platform when theres a 2 car already in there.

I doubt the bird would have suffered any pain - death would surely be instant at 125mph (assuming the train was at top speed).
