LNER has just tweeted this photo of the 1430 to London Kings Cross in platform 5.

RTT still had it showing as platform 2 prior to departure but now shows it as platform 5.

Excellent. But presumably it must have arrived into P5 on an earlier service from KX? Which would have been the inaugural service.

Corrections welcome but it looks as if the stock for that train (1E19) comes in ECS from Prestonpans loop (as 5E19)

1E19 was formed from 5E19 as booked and definitely ran into/out of platform 5. ScotRail's 2Y10 1643 Edinburgh Waverley - North Berwick (formed of 385104) is in platform 6 at the moment.

Which was advertised as p8 until less than 5 minutes to departure! Made for an interesting dash as I was at the far end of 8 angling for a seat in the front coach!

Awesome to see the platforms finally in use.

I do like the irony that these platforms have replaced cars with trains. :E

I'm surprised. I would have thought that there were enough LNER trains terminating in Edinburgh to make full use of the new capacity.

What's with the cycle sign on the front of 385031 in the pics above?

Most of the LNER terminating services do move to 5/6 after the May timetable.

Why wait until then?
I don't know the actual reason, but surely if they replanned platforms for only LNER services then conflicting movements could cause unexpected delays for other traffic arriving and departing from the east end of the station?

because off closing off most off the south end off the station for perhaps 5 or 6 mins for inbound trains it would make sense book trains to use those platforms that are more clock face arrivals and indeed a bigger gap to avoid conflict with other train movements

Ticket gates going in today for 6, 7, 11 and 12. A lot more of them than is shown in the plans. Didn’t manage to get a picture however.

Are the barriers in front or behind the lift entrance/exit?

Ticket gates installed and some other work still taking place.

Both 5 & 6 being used by LNER services when I was in.

I’m reassured that your first photo seems to confirm what I guessed at a few weeks ago, that they would eventually extend the same style of paved area towards the lift shaft. Maybe they really had just run out of the right slabs as edwin_m suggested back in post #930...

The second photo is the first I’ve seen showing that as per the plans there was also a frangible deck section installed inline with the Platform 12 buffers, with the same style of infill paving as the sections for P5/6.
