A 3-coach 197 was out and about on the Crewe to Chester line yesterday. Also a 2-coach 175 appeared to be working the shuttle service which is unusual.

153968 has been reported as having been released, refurbished, from Landore on Monday, 28th Feb. It was seen passing through Neath on its way to Canton. A path was in place for a transfer between the two locations without specifying the vehicle involved.
Is that fully refurbished or after PRM lite modifications?

A class 150 (150241) was booked on the shuttle service until 1554.

I thought Crewe - Chester was normally a mixture of 175s and Voyagers. What is it normally and does a 2nd unit usually take over from late afternoon?

Its very rarely 175s except on Sundays. The shuttle in the day is booked a 153/3+ 153/9

So are 175s normal on Sundays? The last few days it looks like it’s mostly been a 153/3+153/9 but sometimes a 150 and of course a 175. Last Sunday it looks like there were 2 175s out with a different pair taking over later in the day.

Tsk tsk Craigy!

Any ideas which Class 150 has replaced 150 235 for some TLC in Canton?
I know, my standards are dropping! I thought it looked unusually clean and shiny as well

Training for regular guards and drivers on 197s is in full swing now. Between that and the continued testing of the newly delivered sets you should expect to see more of them out and about.

I was driving 158 820 (damien) and the ERTMS was giving the audible overspeed warning at 65mph, this according to the fitter is due to the 158s not being on the cambrian for so long.

He said the units have lost there national standards regarding the ertms level 2 set up, I wonder if this is a problem that can happen if a ertms 158 is away from its home route for an extended period of time ?

I just isolated the etrms under authority which made driving far quieter and saved losing time being restricted to 65mph.

It’s only a 158 because the booked 153’s failed on Crewe CS this morning
I’m not surprised about that. So basically, it’s more likely to be a 158 or a 175 because 153s are nowhere near reliable enough. Why is a ticket from Chester to Stoke via Crewe cheaper than one just from Chester to Crewe? £14 for a 20 minute journey entirely within Cheshire is a bit much isn’t it?

1 failure today does not a pattern make. Yes the 153s aren't amazing reliability wise but no, it's still more likely to be a 153 on it, as that's what's booked.

As for the fare anomaly, it's a very good question. It's been like that for years but I've no idea why. And yes it's only a 20 minute journey, but it's still 21 miles, and the SDR for £14.20 and SVR at £18.80 are a bit more reasonably priced. In any case this is also very off topic for a discussion on refurbishing rolling stock.

As above 150 267 is in the works.

150 284 spent longer in Canton for other work according to a post earlier in this thread, and other sets have been in since.

Transport for Wales (TfW) is celebrating the completion of work to refurbish its fleet of Class 158 long-distance trains.
Work has been ongoing at Arriva TrainCare’s facility in Crewe since the start of 2020 to refurbish the fleet of 24 trains, which operate on routes throughout the Wales and Borders network, including the Cambrian Line in Mid Wales and services to North and West Wales.
Since the first train re-entered service in February 2020, customers have been benefiting from improved facilities, including USB charging points, re-covered seats, new carpets and new interior fittings. The trains have also been rebranded on the outside with TfW’s grey and red livery.

Refurbished Class 158

Work has also focused on improving the reliability of the trains, with improvements to the electrical, heating and Wheel Slide Protection (WSP) systems. This will ensure the trains are available more frequently for service.
The work is part of TfW’s £40 million refurbishment programme, which has also included a refresh of the Class 175, 150 and 153 trains. TfW is also investing over £800 million on a fleet of brand new trains, which will begin to enter service across the Wales and Borders network later in 2022.
Jerry Howells, TfW’s Head of Asset Management, said:
"It's fantastic to be able to deliver these improvements for customers, which they rightly expect to see on a modern railway network. We know being able to travel in comfort and charge devices on the go are incredibly important to our customers, whether they are travelling for 20 minutes or four hours, for business or pleasure.”
Neil Morrey, TfW’s Refurbishment Project Manager, said:
"While we are building brand new trains, they take time to build and we want our customers to have a comfortable experience as soon as possible. We’re particularly proud to have delivered this work 102 days ahead of schedule and under budget."

As this (and the rest of the Wales 170s) is a former Anglia 170, is it intended for it to go straight to East Midlands once it has been repaired, or back to Cardiff?
Good question. I know in the past tfw 170s have always returned to Cardiff canton a few weeks later. However this time around it could quite possibly go to emr after repair works are completed.?

No 170s are leaving until the 231s are in passenger service. This move is just for heavy scheduled maintenance.

Great, now on the Manchesters that's 2 normal seats less, and 10 less tip up seats.
