Has anyone seen www.RailPictures.Net ?

It's not like Fotopic or any other hosting company.

It contains a database of approved photographs, you have to submit photos individually, which then get approved or rejected depending on quality.

It has extremely strict rules, photos must be unusual/interesting/good quality.

I had 3 accepted
http://www.railpictures.net/showphotos.php?userid=9679 :D

And some rejected
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=174054 rejected "too dark"
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=174056 rejected "too dark"
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=174050 rejected "common angle, cloudy, common traction"

Take a look at their editors pick http://www.railpictures.net/showphotos.php?editorspick=true

Interesting, I might have a go at submitting a few photos.

How long did it take for yours to be approved?

It's a US-based site, and as I submitted them at a time that was late here, so afternoon in the US, and it was a matter of 2-3 minutes! However if you submit them now it could be longer.

It tells you how many photos are ahead of you in the queue.

I can understand why they might be a bit choosy in order to keep the quality up but I can't see that those two are "too dark", not on my screen anyway. As for that one of 47847, it's one of my favourites from your collection.
And how dare they call 47s "common traction"? <( (Now perhaps a few a few years ago!)

That's what I thought... I may appeal as you can appeal once for each photo. (I wish there was a way of seeing which moderator was online at the time to avoid the one I had last night! ), but I do understand what they're trying to acheive and that does mean rejecting some good photos. I wonder if they clicked the wrong button when rejecting my first two though (if anything the 158 is too light rather than too dark? :? ).

Where does it say if its too dark or the problem, as I had three rejected but can't find out why?

Too dark apparently, hmm...
Did you appeal?

I appealed saying mine were not too dark, they rejected them without comment. Oh well

I don't mind them rejecting but to say 'too dark' when something blatantly isn't too dark is just daft.

Poor lighting (Backlit): The image is backlit or doesn't feature enough nose light on the subject.
Unlucky, Matt. At least they were honest about this one!

Waiting in some far corner of the country for a 37
I have had 78 photos accepted they can be viewed by click on this link http://www.railpictures.net/showphotos.php?userid=7228

But I have also had loads rejected.

If the photo of not in perfect sun there is little point in trying. I once even had one in prefect sun rejected as the sun was too high in the sky and no shadows!

Road Number is the loco number for anyone wondering - Its and American thing!

Good luck to anyone submitting there own photos...

Thanks for the info. They should make that clear here.

I'd have thought this was perfect sun though! Or are they being fussy about that bit of shadow on the front of the loco?

- Poor lighting (Cloudy): Common angle cloudy day shots of common/standard power are generally not accepted.
I think they are just pressing buttons with standard responses. I don't necessarily believe they're being too fussy (after all they only accept the best pictures), but I do believe they are not providing adequate or accurate reasons.

Common angle? No
Cloudy? Yes
Common/standard power? No!

I think it's a case of one of those reasons applying, it's just a poorly written standard response.

And as for the "too dark" replies, I think that can be read as "non perfect lighting", as many are not dark at all.

Also the OHLE gets in the way of your photo, but it appears they don't have a standard response for that!

Hmm, I don't think I'll bother uploading my shots if they're being that fussy. Might have a go, although they'll probably class HSTs as 'common/standard power'. 31s and 37s probably also count as 'standard power' to them!

Whether it does or not, it's still one of the best photos I've seen this year!

They are picking random responses for each! Some are good and are rejected, some are bad and accepted. :|

Which bad ones were accepted?

I've never seen a bad photo accepted there!

I don't think you've had any accepted though as the only last UK photos to be accepted today are by Rich & Seth. Unless you've submitted photos taken abroad?

Interesting that the top 3 UK photos are of 66s...but then most of the viewers to the site are likely to be American!

They're not saying that.

If a photo is good then it's not going to get into that site. If a photo is very good, then it might, depending on various factors, but even then it might not.
