Talking of which, phrases like "if you wish to discuss so and so, feel free to start a new thread" is another UK Rail forum catchphrase.

So of course is the one about avoiding multiple posts ;)

Yes but it’s off topic for this thread so feel free to start a new one…

As we’ve covered everything we’re now bringing this thread to a close, thanks folks.

Normally about 5 seconds before I’m about to hit “post” after spending ages writing a long reply

When you offer up a suggestion (often in a Trivia thread) that has already been suggested some smartarse will say "see post #XXX" often followed by a winky smiley.

I'm becoming increasingly irritated by the patronising feel of the winky smiley, although I must admit I often put it at the end of a more cutting/scornful remark just to make it look more friendly so it isn't deleted

Pedant alert, but… [points out obvious typo/erroneous information that doesn’t need pointing out]

"It was better in the 60s/70s/80s/90s" (delete as applicable).

Guilty of that one myself.

Way on down South London town
"I'll get my coat" was popular over on London Recconections in the site's glory days. "Crayonista" too, but I think it was used much less sneeringly over there than it tends to be on here.

On that note, let's have loco-hauled stock on every minor branch line in the country.
Rhymney
North Berwick
Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft
Cumbria Coast
Fife Circle
And not forgetting WCRC to Windermere

We've made a good start!

Okay it’s clear that this discussion is going nowhere and parties on both sides won’t be changing their view so we’ve decided to close this one.

If anyone has anything new to say on this topic, please report this post with a draft of what you want to post, and we’ll review it.

Thanks folks.
