probably going to get stick for this , but it is an opinion,
all the good work into dalmuir , great camera position , yet no sound :(
doesn't give the real realism , say, like Dawlish does.

No stick at all, we were very limited to the cam we could use at Dalmuir and to just get the cam up and running we had to go ahead without sound, I don't know how closely you have followed the set up of Dalmuir Cam, but we have had some serious bad luck, so we decided to get a feed up and running and look at sound another time. We will look to add sound in the future providing we can make it work right.

We also have a privacy issue with Dalmuir, which is very similar to the one at Clitheroe, with the cams being on private property we have to be very careful of sound being picked up from people houses/gardens, sadly this is the case at both of these sites.

Firstly, sorry for the many problems we have had over the last few days, we found out the new chat system was grinding the whole site to a crawling pace, cams and login were virtually non-existent, but we have returned to the old chat system until we can resolve the issues with the new chat. Thankfully we now seem to have stable cam streams, and thankfully so, as this weekend sees a bumper weekend of action,

fair enough , I have read on FB and on RC , how long this took to come online and the bad luck as well
never gave privacy issue a thought

I prefer sound on the cams , makes them more realistic , that's why I like wcml and Dawlish , just now and again thou the orange men swearing can be an issue

like this cam as well , but not British cam thou,

Hi All...
The "Live Train Tracker" on the Dawlish Webcam...appears dead. Any Reason? Sam

A Fibre Link is down between the KC Data Centre in Bristol and London, which is causing issues with data being transmitted. Should be fixed at some point tomorrow (i hope as a forum I run is linked into that Data Centre). This is causing the issues for the Open Access Data, as it routes through the KC Data Centre in Bristol

We are delighted to announce our latest new cam location and and our second on the West Coast Mainline.

RAILCAM WATFORD

10313136_630706973685138_6378154676353295225_n.jpg

Our cam is situated between Watford Junction station and Watford Tunnels and faces north. From here we will cover all the traffic along this very busy part of the West Coast Mainline, including passenger services by Virgin, London Midland & ScotRail’s Caledonian Sleeper, as well as freight from a whole host of operators, including GBRf, Freightliner, DRS & the DBS operated Royal Mail Class 325.

To accompany the arrival of Watford Cam, we are launching the next section of our live signalling diagrams, which are open to supporters of Railcam. This will cover our Watford Cam and complete the entire WCML. from London Euston to Glasgow.

Euston Area covers:
Cheddington, Tring & Berkhamsted
Hemel Hempstead, Apsley & Kings Langley
Railcam Watford, Watford Junction & Bushey
Harrow & Wealdstone, Wembley Central & Willesden LDC RAILNET
Wembley Yard & Willesden TMD
Queens Park
London Euston

You will also see a few changes on the site, aimed at tidying up the view pages a little, with better navigation menus for the cam screens.

We currently have other cam locations in the install/testing process as well as a planned upgrade to our Euxton Cam in the pipeline, all of which is made possible by the kind donations made to us by our supporters, so we would like to thank all those that have donated to Railcam. Stay tuned on Facebook for more exciting news in the coming weeks!

Good evening Railcam fans, We are on a roll this week here at Railcam, and today we are delighted to bring you part one of our latest installation,

RAILCAM YORK

10390392_632634800159022_6169681787001823837_n.jpg

Railcam York will have 2 cameras situated just south of Skelton Junction, to the north of York station. Our first cam will be free for all to view via our website www.railcam.org.uk and is facing north, with the second ‘Supporters Only’ cam facing south, but with a much wider viewing angle and available in HD. The entire ECML is currently covered by our Live Signalling Diagram, with a mini diagram accompanying York Cam, and will be available to all.

To gain supporters status you will need to donate a minimum of £10 a year to Railcam, which helps fund projects like York Cam, and all the other new cams we have rolled out this year, running costs and general care and maintenance to all our current cam locations. As well as access to York Cam HD, you will get to use our ever expanding and very popular Live Signalling Diagrams.

York Cam will be right up there with the busiest of our cams, with regular passenger services from East Coast, Cross Country & TransPennine Express along with a high volume of freight including DB Schenker, Freightliner & GBRf. York Cam will also see its fair share of railtours throughout the year.

We currently have other cam locations in the planning process as well as a planned upgrade to our Euxton Cam in the pipeline, all of which is made possible by the kind donations made to us by our supporters, so we would like to thank all those that have donated to Railcam. Stay tuned on Facebook for more exciting news in the coming weeks!

No it has not. The cam was offline until 8.42am yesterday as software crashed. I do not know if it went off again later. A new provider instead of Livestream is being started from next month.

Watford Cam now has sound.

Clitheroe Cam has been having the sound turned on during the day for the Fellsman tours passing, and will continue to be turned on for all steam charters.

***Railcam Live Signalling Diagrams are offered as a thank you to those members who make a donation of £10 or more, which give you a years access to the Diagrams, and our supporters only York Cam 2. Every penny donated to Railcam is put right back into the site, covering everything from general running costs to cam upgrades and new cam locations. Without the kind donations we receive we would not be able to keep the site running, so thank you to all of those that dig deep and help us out.

Bad news from the Dawlish Beach Cam............

"From the 1st of August 2014, Dawlish Beach will be a subscription only website. I have tried to keep this afloat since March but simply can't afford to keep paying for it myself. The only other option is to close it down altogether.

It is very disappointing that I have had so little support from Dawlish businesses when we are receiving close to 2 million hits a month from all over the world. Those that have advertised have seen a massive surge in web traffic and business and I thank those businesses for the support.

The price from August will be £2 per month or £20 per year. You will also be able to have a free trial so if you don't like the service you can cancel with no costs involved.

We will be moving away from LiveStream at this time also and will be using Camsecure.co.uk to provide our new stream. We are hoping to run this stream at 1080p so the quality will be far better than it ever has been.

For the chatters in the chat room, you will still be able to chat away next to the live feed, so you should feel right at home when the new site goes live.

Thank you for understanding."

The quality of the cams, and the variety of locations has improved greatly over the past year or so. I have been a contributor for a few years now, and enjoyed viewing on many occasions.

I personally always feel a little uncomfortable about the voluntary contributions, as I never quite know when it is I am supposed to pay, or what it the correct amount. If the price was reasonable I would prefer to pay a fixed monthly amount. Not only that if it was then run on a profit making basis, presumably the funds would be there to further improve the site, which would be great news.

I think you may be mixing Dawlish Beach Cam and Railcam up. It is Dawlish Beach Cam (dawlishbeach.com) that is planning on charging a monthly/yearly subscription and not Railcam (railcam.org.uk).

At Railcam we are kindly given a feed of the cam at Dawlish by dawlishbeach.com, we don't own the cam or the dawlishbeach.com website. In return we provide the live signalling diagram which feature on the dawlishbeach.com site.

The donations made to Railcam are purely for the maintenance and improvement of the current cam locations and sourcing and funding new locations. As a thank you for donations of £10 or more we give in return access for a year to our live signalling diagrams and our two 'Supporters Only' cams which are York Cam 2 and will shortly have the newly upgraded Euxton Cam 1. We take no money at all from donations made to Railcam, every penny is put back into the upkeep of our current cam sites, running costs and set up of new cam locations.

Our cams will always remain free to view (after free registration with railcam.org.uk). Our Supporters only cams will only feature at sites where we have 2 cams installed, so you will always have free access to a cam at every Railcam site.

As regards you comment about regular monthly donations, the only reason we don't promote this is because for some reason the PayPal account doesn't like this and 99% of the time rejects the set up of a regular donation. There are other ways that this could possibly be set up, please contact us [email protected] and we should be able to answer any questions on this. If you have made a donation, you will receive an email a month before your years access to the supporters features expires.

As mentioned above Euxton Cam has just undergone an upgrade and host hosts 2 cams, rather than the single cam that we could remotely move north or south, I will post more information on this later on, with a few stills from the new cams.

Cheers, CSK.

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

Good afternoon Railcam fans, we are delighted to bring you our latest location update, we have fully installed two brand new cameras at our Euxton site, replacing the old single cam.

For those who don't know Euxton cam is situated south of Preston on the West Coast Mainline, between Euxton Balshaw Lane station and Euxton Junction and was our first ever cam back in September 2009. Euxton has seen various upgrades over the years but this has been the biggest and best yet, bringing high quality live video and superb still images directly to your screen.

Euxton Cam 1 is south facing, looking towards Euxton Balshaw Lane station, which should just about visible once the leaves start to fall. This cam has sound.

10317759_658787394210429_3340969131847349103_o.jpg

Euxton Cam 2 is north facing, looking towards Euxton Junction. This cam is a silent cam at the moment.

10496241_658787397543762_7825753337789877967_o.jpg

Both cams cover the 4 lines on this section of line, the 2 closest to the cam being the fast lines, and the 2 furthest away the slows.

Both of these cams are currently available free to all Railcam members until the end of the month, where one will then go to 'Supporters Only' status.

Wow! The Euxton cam looks amazing. Very nice. Thanks for your efforts.

It's great to see how far the RailCam team have improved over the years since their 1st camera and appearance in the local Lancashire Evening Post http://www.lep.co.uk/news/local/armchair-spotters-train-lens-on-rail-line-1-1554284

Keep up the good work lads and thanks again for your efforts. I hope to become a subscriber soon too.

Thanks for the kind comments Karl, and WOW, not seen that article for a very long time! We must pull some of the early days stuff together to show how far we have come....

Good morning, it is with great sadness that we have to report that as of tomorrow Railcam will be losing its Dawlish Cam feed.

For those who don't already know, Dawlish Cam is provided to us via Dawlish Beach Cam at www.dawlishbeach.com Site owner Neil has kindly given Railcam a feed from the cam to feature on our site, filling the void left after the demise of our original Dawlish Cam back in January, but a HD quality feed and the quality of camera required to cope with the harsh Dawlish sea does not come cheap, so Dawlish Beach Cam is, from the 1st August, going to be a subscription only cam run entirely at dawlishbeach.com.

We here at Railcam know all to well how costs can spiral when keeping these cams live and we class ourselves very lucky to have the number of donations that we get, so we urge you to visit dawlishbeach.com and continue to support their efforts, with viewing packages starting from £1 you can't really go wrong.

We would like to place on record our thanks to Neil and all the team over at dawlishbeach.com for the wonderful job they have done getting Dawlish Cam up and running, and wish you all the best for the future, it has been a pleasure working with you.

On a brighter not, keep an eye out for potentially 3 new cams coming to Railcam very soon.......
