Confusing silliness with immaturity is a sign of immaturity.

No confusion whatsoever to my way of thinking. Maturity brings forth a mental reasoning ability that has had time to develop over the years. Silliness is usually found in children who have not yet had time to fully develop mature thought processes.

I sincerely hope that my explanation above allays your fears that I was suddenly struck by a severe attack of logical reasoning confusion...

Was it not Bertrand Russell who said "It is only with maturity that we gain the wisdom to be silly."?

I must congratulate you on noting that my forum signature was based on another comment made by H. L. Mencken....
"A cynic, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin"

Eh? Why? We can all see it. Did you not think he was capable of reading?

Oh dear, our young ultra-Socialist rebel returns to fly the red flag of attempted sarcasm not realising that his words, in Biblical style, "fell upon stony ground"

If you looked at the posting to which I made a response, you would see the H. L. Mencken connection that was common to both.

All you are doing, by making strident posting interjections, is demonstrating that silliness still remains the preserve of the younger members of this website.

As DaleCooper once said "What makes you think I can read, I've only just learned to write."

I disagree, I'm 62 and very silly indeed.

Has this thread run its course? I doubt that there will be any more updates regarding the name of the ship (RSS David Attenborough) or its submersible (Boaty McBoatface).

I disagree. Think about all the people who would be attracted to polar science! It would have certainly got young people interested in it, and, if they created a social media account called 'BoatyMcBoatfaceOfficial', they could take photos of their expeditions and suchlike, and circulate them, showing people what they get up to. Surely that can't be a bad thing?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-36260569

The controversy over the naming of a new polar research vessel was an "astoundingly good outcome" for public interest in science, MPs have heard.
The National Environment Research Council defended its decision to hold a public poll to suggest names, in which Boaty McBoatface got the most support.
Professor Duncan Wingham said the row had "put a smile" on people's faces.
But MPs asked if he would be made to "walk the plank" by ministers, who named it after Sir David Attenborough.
Prof Wingham was giving evidence to the Commons Science and Technology Committee about the episode, which attracted huge public interest and divided opinion after Boaty McBoatface was passed over.
He said that ministers' decision to name the vessel after the eminent zoologist and broadcaster - the option which came fourth in the poll - while allowing Boaty McBoatface to live on by naming a remotely operated sub-sea vehicle after it was an "eloquent compromise".
Asked by Conservative MP Nicola Blackwood what the episode had done for public engagement in science, the academic said it had attracted "extraordinary attention" which could only be regarded as an "incredible success".
"We could make the claim that we are probably the best-known research council in the world," he said.
"We could make the claim that because of that there are hundreds of thousands of people, not only in the UK but around the world, who know about us and the science that we have done
"In many ways we feel this has been an astonishingly great outcome for us. In addition, it has put a smile on everyone's face."
Prof Wingham said NERC would do the same again in the future, although he said there were no plans for other boats at the moment.

Discuss.

"Cumfy". Really? It's awkward because I associate bussy with "buss", a rather rude term on urban dictionary. Also it turns out that "bussy has its own definition on urban dictionary of which I actually wasn't aware of before, and I wish that was still the case.

Have a look at the image in posting # 135 which shows the operator as being Cumfybus..

Is that the firm who operate from Southport?

Another planet...

The company does in fact have a U as the first vowel, and yes they are the firm that operates in the Southport and Sefton Coast areas of Merseyside, with incursions into Ormskirk such as being operators of the Edge Hill University shuttle bus during my time studying there.

As a self-confessed pedant (albeit one who holds one's hands up to numerous grammatical errors of past, present and future) the sight of their vehicles taking me to my place of higher education was enough to make my teeth itch.

Indeed their spelling of the shortened form of "comfortable" coupled with the abovementioned urban dictionary entry cited by Harbonite creates a double whammy of double-entendres...

I'll refer you to the aforementioned image which reveals that the bus company is "cumfybus" and not "comfybus", therefore I am right. I know you like your attention to detail!

Now them, you are a tad behind the clock as my posting was amended at just past midnight, so you are 20 hours out of time......or is "Brummy time" like the "Brummy bible" in being different than the rest...:D

I was fully aware that the post had been edited, but I missed the chance to rub it in 20 hours ago, so my reply was rather late as a result!
