Does anybody know what power cars will be allocated to the 2 sets that are due back from Wabtec soon please, this will allow me to track the diagrams when in service for the stock formations. Thank you.
43175 and 43036 are at Wabtec so will bring back one of the 3 sets there

HA25 is at Inverness minus a power car, 43021 is at Loughborough.

HA12 is still at Slateford.

Could do with more sets usable, availability has tanked recently.

Many thanks again for your reply, it now clarifies HA25 and confirms HA12
Yes a pity more sets are not available.

It’s leaf fall season and therefore HSTs get square wheels! Quite a few sets waiting for the wheel lathe.

Oh I appreciate that, I was more thinking of the several traction failures recently rather than FGW's short-sightness in not upgrading the WSP and that continuing to cause issues...

ScotRail have also failed to upgrade the WSP. It was part of the original plan but was de-scoped.

That's interesting, I don't recall reading that it was part of the ScotRail plan.

Pity, the sets were really struggling over the HML the other week despite the reduced weight over an LNER set, and I know the LNER sets did lose time in poor conditions - but they got there.

I only remember once travelling on the Chieftain with it arriving in Edinburgh too late to form the 1130 to London due to poor rail conditions over the HML.

I think that says something.

Not sure how much it fits with the subject but is 43030 still in storage, is it their 'Christmas Tree' or is it completely gone?
I read, on another forum, that certain components were to have been recovered from 43030 with a view to restoring 43128 to traffic. That plan was not carried through however.

43030 has been disposed of by ScotRail to Brodie's, presumably to provide spares. Meanwhile, 43128 has recently passed its 4th anniversary since it last worked a train. 1,479 days and counting!

Considering the number of 'failures', of which I'm given to understand are mostly wheelflats on power cars - you would have thought priority would have been given to having as many power cars available as possible for cover.

Alas, no...

I wander if 128 still has the really long power handle it possessed in GWR days. Always bugged me when I had that one all the way from Ply to Padd!

It wasn't the only one. 43143 also had a long power handle.

Well......maybe FGW or Scotrail should have fitted the KB WSP system alongside the new Brush electronics. Short term economy ends up being long term pain.

Transport Scotland were warned at the time that removing this modification from the refurbishment specification would be a false economy. They did it anyway. Now there is an invitation to tender out for the fitting of Sanders to the fleet. 143 still has a long power handle!

Good luck with fitting sanders......been look at many times during the HSTs career and always deemed not enough room.

I believe 143 gained the new power handle when it fell off whilst working an evening Pad-Hereford service back in Valenta days. It stuck in Notch 1 in Ledbury tunnel and the driver managed to nurse it all the way back to Bristol, albeit it very slowly, using the brake pipe governor to cut the power.

Thank you very much the the reply, much appreciated.
You're very welcome; I can keep an eye out for it re-entering traffic at some point if you wish?

Or you can just periodically stick either power car number into Realtimetrains.

Also, what set is 43144 and what is its sister power car?
Was on HA06 with 43037 but it doesn't appear to have been out since the 19th of September.

(43037 and HA06 has had 43177 as the 'other' power car since the 20th September.)

43144 was failed with a burning smell and smoke in the cab / engine room and has been under repair since.
