Hey there everybody,
Has anyone who passed the psychometric on February down at atrium court heard anything about manager interviews or had any correspondence from HR?
Cheers

Was thinking the same like, see how the new year kicks off.Fingers crossed, although I am having second thoughts about leaving my current job due to the pandemic situation etc.

I've already lost a travel industry job due to the pandemic and am currently working in something I have absolutely no desire to be in. Yes it's a secure job, but barely sustainable wages wise, so I'm personally willing to take the risk and grab the rail opportunity with both hands. If it doesn't work out I'd have lost a job i won't miss, if it does then I'd have gained a great new career.
Each person needs to just make their own mind up based on their circumstances. I'd not have left my previous job to go to rail had it not been for covid, even though rail seems to offer a much higher salary.

Yeah, just need to see how it pans out. Hopefully it will be all good.
Sorry to hear you lost your previous job, everybody’s situation will be different. Luckily I have a job I enjoy within the railway at the moment but becoming a train driver is an aspiration I have. I’d imagine internal applicants have the benefit of a fall back to their previous role? Short term I have to put my family first. Each individual will have to weigh the risks themselves.
Just out of curiosity, when were the trainee driver roles advertised for the sleeper? I'm assuming it was through Serco you applied?Thank you, it was in Aviation, so no chance of that coming back any time soon, although now I'm out of that industry I must say I only really miss the benefits (as a frequent traveler the standby flights made up for the lower salary) and not the actual job itself. I'm the weeks before I was made redundant it was becoming an absolute nightmare to keep up with the changing entry rules and regulations as countries closed their doors. I actually applied for this job on the Sleeper within days of being let go and didn't hear anything back for months, I'd more or less forgotten all about my application as luckily I jumped into another job very early on in the lockdown.
That said, I don't want to take this thread off its main topic as I'm not even going to be a scotrail driver! I just use this thread to gain a rough idea of when I might start. It's good to see some December start dates for you driver trainees, it might mean my start date is around a similar time. I've got my medical out the way too.
Best of luck to you all.

I applied for Train manager, not driver. I couldn't find a thread about anything sleeper recruitment related, so this was the closest thing as I'm told we will be reliant upon Scotrail training facilities.

Internal applicants continue to work in their current role until their training starts for new role. If they are not successful in their application, they just carry on doing what they were. (They don't 'fall back')
If they join a new role and start training, they then cease their previous role which for most people is fine. If someone fails their training and doesn't qualify then there is generally NO automatic right to return to their previous role which may have been filled by someone else already. If there is a vacancy , then they can apply for it but there is no guarantee they will get it, all depends on a variety of things.

Scotrail will train you for shunting the sleeper. Some great guys do the shunting course. Usually Scott Denniston or Pat McQuade. I shunted the sleeper up until July of this year when the contract was given to GBRf.
We’re currently doing traction training, two of us to one trainer. Training trains have been cancelled though.
No prospect of driving instructors in the foreseeable for us according to our DTM.
No word on DIs officially to us.I had just finished traction and was out with a DI when this all happened, no sign of when DIs may be willing to start taking drivers out again? What have yous been told will happen after traction? Are you North Clyde also?
A large amount of DI's have chucked it with no intention of taking it back on. Its going to be a very long process to get current trainees through the training program.
No word on DIs officially to us.
No communication re post traction, assumption is back home for some considerable time.
South Clyde for us (if they call it that)
That's my worry. Sitting at home doing nothing wondering if I will ever get back!! Cannot see myself being back until mid next year as it currently stands.
My depot currently has 14 trainees and down to 5 DI's.
