Thats the existing route to the Airport!
I didn't phrase that very well. I meant a fast service to the Airport from South Hylton, only calling at Monument along the way.

Back to domestic trains, a return to a full TPO service and a return to Newspaper traffic, both with the odd passenger car attached!

Gone indeed are the days that platform 11 at Manchester Victoria was the main departure point for the Newspaper trains that were ran late in the evenings.
I can't see many people using that, however a fast Sunderland to Airport limited stop service might be useful but I doubt it would be practicle
Joking aside, there's no point in any "fast" service when the train infront is only a few minutes ahead, meaning it'd be caught up in no time.
I'm surprised the Sunderland services don't go to the Airport though, I'd have thought there was more market for such a service than a South Shields - Airport service?

The return of the Southport to Preston coastal line .
SOUTHPORT
HESKETH PARK
CHURCHTOWN
CROSSENS
BANKS
HUNDRED END
HESKETH BANK
HOOLE
LONGTON BRIDGE
NEW LONGTON AND HUTTON
PRESTON
They even closed the ELECTRIC branch from Southport to Crossens
Praise be to that. My mate lives in Tarleton and wishes he could just hop on a train to Preston rather than the Stagecoach mystery tour around half of suburban Lancashire.
A "dream" - which can never be realised - would be some limited reopening, but of course, ''progress'' means there's no chance in High Heaven of an inch of track ever appearing along the route. An awful historic destruction, one which has torn out real chances for local transport interchanges and as a consequence economic health has been compromised for generations too.
Derby - Stoke - Manchester as an extension of Derby to Stoke running via the Airport. (Could terminate at the airport as transfer there is pretty easy)
A nice new bridge over the River Douglas would be rather essential as part of the infrastructural requirements.
I am glad that you mentioned the bus service. Would this be the number 2 service from Preston to Southport that passes the entrance to the West Lancashire Light Railway, near to the new supermarket?
There once was a service using the southern chord from Manchester Airport to the Midlands. What was the reason for its withdrawal and would these reasons still be valid today?
This southern facing chord is very much underused.
It was a Central trains service to Skegness, I guess it just got scaled back when Central was split. Would still have come entirely under the remit of EMT though.
I'd like to see the following:
1 TPH Nunthorpe - Newcastle Airport
calling Gypsy Lane, Marton, Middlesbrough, Thornaby, Stockton, Billingham, Seaton Carew, Hartlepool, Seaham, Sunderland, Heworth, Newcastle Central MetroCentre -> New line - Newcastle Airport
1 TPH Middlesbrough - Hexham/Carlisle
calling as now.
1 TPH Darlington - Hartlepool
calling Teesside Airport, Dinsdale, Allens West, Eaglescliffe, Stockton, Billingham, Seaton Carew & Hartlepool (BAY PLATFORM)
Here's one I'd like to see during the summer: the Bournemouth XCs extended alternately
POOLE
WAREHAM
DORCHESTER SOUTH
WEYMOUTH
and
POOLE
WAREHAM
NORDEN PARKWAY (yes, I'd rename it like this)
CORFE CASTLE
SWANAGE
The Swanage railway is 3tp2h in the summer, so there's certainly demand.
If they have a spare 73 in the area, some have been fitted for hauling Desiros. If they could extend the "Royal Wessex" commuter fasts - Poole portion anyway - to Swanage, then Purbeck could have its own London commuter service.

Newcastle is a cold station when you need to kip there having missed the 22:43! I would have liked to get the old Manchester Airport train at C.0200 but that dersont run anymore - bet it was a fun one to work on!
I used to work that train in the early 2000's and it was mainly used by drunks going back to Durham , in particular students. They'd try anything to avoid paying their fares as they had usually managed to dodge their fares on the outward journey but generally we would keep one door open and make them pay or show before they got on. I often used to haul the BTP out of their cosy warm office and make them do some work too.
I would like to see DIRECT services from Manchester to Dover and to Penzance.
