South of Peterhead is Slains Castle, which is said to have inspired Bram Stoker to write Dracula. Whitby is where Dracula is said to have come ashore.

The village is at a confluence where the River Dunsop joins the River Hodder, and flows south to join with the River Ribble outside Clitheroe.
