Well that was plan B just thought someone else who has had the same prediciment might have a better idea than ringing them all.

Even now I still google the number, and have to try 3 or 4 times before I find the right one...

I've always used 0161 261 7594 which goes through to a HR-ish call centre, and if they can't help through looking at your records, then they log a query and HR are 'meant' to get back to you, via phone or email within 2 days.

HR are very confusing just got this email yesterday asking me when my start date is...
Good Morning Paul,

"I can confirm your pre-employment checks are now complete and we are in a position to arrange a start date.

Please can you confirm when your intended start date is? Once confirmed, we will forward this to your manager to see whether this date is also okay for them.

Thanks,"

Very cryptic

Hi been browsing through and glad to have found some information from people faced with the same problems!

So far I`ve accepted the formal proposal and done my medical, I generally ring the recruitment team on a daily basis on principal (I`ve long lost hope at actually phoning up and getting new information regarding my status!).

So far I`ve had mixed opinions from the team regarding where I stand, all say I`m waiting on course start dates (managed to get the LOM mobile number and has tipped me off for a july course up in york). Now I just need to wait for bupa to send the physical copy or the medical that was done weeks ago? Or the previous employment checks that they have no record of being done (that I can confirm has been done as my current employer got tipped off when NR contacted them weeks ago) or another step of the process?

Hey ho it is what it is, so frustrating trying that getting a ball park figure for start dates confirmed is like asking how long a piece of string is, very difficult to sort current employment with this in mind (Lucky these people are very understanding atm!)

Look forward to meeting you other july startes :D

glad its not just me going through it then. It defiantly makes life a bit more difficult in the sense of being able to arrange holidays and working out when i can leave my current job.

It still says my pre employment checks are not complete looking at my online account, although the recruitment person i spoke to was quite sure im booked onto the course at the end of july so hopefully a definite start date wont be to long away.

So managed to get an update today but I cant say it was a good one, Had an e-mail telling me that a request was sent to my current employer for a reference just over a month ago but has`nt been returned. Cant say i`m suprised as the current company have been battling to get me to stay but what I am suprised at is that the recruitment support team has failed to mention this to me in any of the daily calls from me for updates.

Chances are with a heads up I could of sorted this from my end and sped the process up, why consistantly tell me the only thing delaying the process was the paper copies from BUPA?

just keep at it im sure they will sort it eventually.

I got confirmation this morning of my start date 27th july at the signalling centre but i have to report to my box on thr 20th of july presumably for some on the job training in the first week.

took long enough mind

Just a general gripe but after working in various jobs ranging from hands on trade work, being in the army both tech and practical roles and finally working a civilian tech office role i`m finding it hard to believe that its a minimum of 48hrs to hear back from the recruitment team, I`m getting the feeling that there is alot of book passing and sloppey shoulder attitude going on here.

Lovely stuff mate. Give them a day or two and then give them a ring again and make sure they are doing it!

As I said, it's quite a busy time atm and another posted the other day saying he was waiting a start date! But don't fret, they won't forget about you and you will get in. It is well worth the wait!

Regarding course length, they are generally 13 weeks (11 weeks absolute block, 1 week location specific stuff (AC/DC/level crossings etc) then 1 week track circuit block. They do run just TCB courses which is around 8-9 weeks I believe!

Good luck, you will get there! I know it's a pain waiting for it all thinking you may be forgotten about, but the manager wouldn't let them!
hello mate, I've PM you
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Hello mate! What vacancy did you get?

From speaking to a couple of people the other day, there is a few people waiting to start courses. Since it's all at york now, and the other centres have shut, they can only offer less courses!

Just keep waiting, and keep ringing them. You won't get on their nerves, they will understand and they are generally a good bunch. If you need the recruitment phone number drop me a PM.

The course is (generally) 13 weeks long, so I would guess they are every 13 weeks (unless they run multiples at the same time with staggered dates!)
Carriageline, is the school 13 all at York or do you have one week in your deignated box? Have PM you again too! Thanks

When I did it (roughly 18 months ago) there were two designated weeks out that were spent in the box.

Did you do that over any public holidays etc?

The way it SHOULD be done, is 13 weeks (including Tcb at the end) non stop. There is the 2-3 weeks where you come home on the Thursday and you spend the Friday at the box.

The plan changed for us on a couple of occasions, midway through the course. The original intention was for us to have just a couple of Fridays in the box along the way, but we ended up with a full week (as well as the week before the course started).

That's what happened to me (couple of Friday's in the box), and a week before in the box. Would go back to signalling school any day, was fantastic

I enjoyed it, but wouldn't fancy doing it all again! Anyone who is yet to go, though - work as a team and socialise as a time, and you'll have a great time as well as gaining a lot more from the course itself :) .
