Mind you there are a few examples of this:

It's an unfortunate situation where a tourist attraction qualifies for a brown sign and is called Secret Nuclear Bunker. It is rather amusing though!

There's a town in Newcastle called Killingsworth, and when I first saw the road sign, I couldn't believe it. Yet incredibly, such a place exists. Killingsworth!

One I unfortunately can't show you, owing to my only copy of it being on a really old print film, was the old "STOP, LOOK, LISTEN" crossing sign at Thorrington. When putting it up, someone had drilled the two screw holes right through the OO in LOOK, to the lower right and in exactly the same place, producing a pair of eyes.

Well ok, however they be more accurate about it and prefix it with the word 'Historic'?

Have you never visited it...? I can recommend it very highly.

Half the point is that it was a complete secret right up until it was decommissioned and opened as a visitor attraction. Even the guy who owned the farm on which it was built had no idea of it's existence, even during the construction phase when there were lorry loads of steel and concrete passing his front door every day.

It's actually Killingworth (no 's' unfortunately).

Fun fact no.1 about Killingworth - George Stephenson invented his miner's lamp whilst working at a pit there - the Geordie lamp. Apparently miners in the NE liked it better than the Davy lamp, so that is one hypothesised reason for people from Newcastle being called Geordie.

Wasn't there an outbreak of home made signs like that plastered all over parts of the tube last year with all sorts of funny messages on them? They seemed to be expertly done - I wonder how long it took for the underground staff to realise what was going on?

Some of you will hate this one. It's just by Haymarket depot.

Do you fancy an Open Hot or a Cold Food?

You don't have that choice on the Underground.

The correct reading would be 'you will let people sit on your lap.' :p

In Lincoln a few years ago we had a spate of silly signs being stuck over bus stop signs. They looked well made and said things like ' bat stop' with a pic of the batmobile. I'll see if I can look out the pictures I took at the time.

On a public transport theme, one of my favourites from the local bus station.

They fitted fancy new signs, but owing to a misunderstanding at the sign printers, this one demoted the bus station's standing in the town :)

Suffice to say, this one was replaced pdq!

(the only photoshopping was a crop & resize; it is genuine!)
