I disagree. This is only mentioned in section F which gives more detail.The NRG in Detail states in bold font "When you have chosen your journey, look to see if an easement applies to it."
This forms one of the documents under "Instructions and help" on the ATOC site so anyone choosing not to read it only has themselves to blame if their route is actually forbidden by an easement.
The instructions are in Section A and on the very first page is a flowchart which gives instructions on how to use the Routeing Guide.
It quite clearly says:
Why/how should someone expect this to be contradicted elsewhere in the document?Most customers wish to make journeys by through trains or by the shortest route. In both cases they will be travelling on a permitted route, provided the correct fare has been paid to reflect any routeing indicated by the fares manual.
Also "Section A explains the rules and procedures for using the Routeing Guide" (section F). Nowhere in section A is this rule explained or mentioned.
