I bought discounted Stansted Express tickets from Liverpool St to Stansted Airport. As I live near Vauxhall, I'd prefer to leave from Tottenham Hale, which wasn't an option on the booking site.

Can I board at Tottenham Hale using a ticket with Liverpool St as the origin?

Thanks for your help!

What ticket type is it (e.g. Off Peak Day Return)? :)

Just checked and it looks like it will be an Anytime Single or Anytime Return, in which case you can board the train at Tottenham Hale with no problems... you might need to show your ticket to the people on the barriers as it may not work them automatically but it should be fine :)

The ticket says "Express Class Return" -- I assume that is an anytime return ticket?

Tottenham Hale does not have ticket barriers to the main line platforms, so presumably the original poster would be able to use their LU ticket to exit the tube, and onto their train. I don't think Stansted Express really has any advance purchase tickets, none with break of journey restrictions anyway, although I stand to be corrected.

Wouldn't you be better off buying a ticket from Tottenham Hale to Stansted, on another website, such as National Express' http://www.nationalexpresseastanglia.com/ I haven't time to check but this must be cheaper!

TP

He's already got the ticket

The Stansted Express website offers a small discount on the price of tickets bought in advance. 'Express' class is just their word for standard class and 'open return' is synonymous with anytime return

But they do offer a Tottenham Hale option, so I'm not sure where OP got his from.

Bottom line is there should be no problems using his ticket in the way he wants

I agree with the previous posters. The OP should ensure he touches out if using Oyster to get to Tottenham Hale.

Is it a possibility that the OP might have got his ticket from somewhere like Easyjet or Ryanair? I seem to recall that they claim they offer a discount however have never tried them before.

Certainly on EasyJet, tickets can only be purchased on inbound flights - although in any case, unless a BoJ restriction is written on the promotional ticket, in my view it takes the same restrictions as the equivalent standard ticket issued on BR stock. :)

I was going to say it could be the return half of such a ticket, but that doesn't seem to fit.

Thanks for all your replies.

If I look at the Stansted Express main website and select 2 express class return tickets for this Friday, from Tottenham Hale to Stansted, the price is £55.00 (£59 from Liverpool St).

If you go to Ryanair's subsite on the stanstedexpress.com domain, Liverpool St - Stansted return is £43.20. There is no Tottenham Hale - Stansted option on that site. You also don't need to have purchased a ticket with Ryanair to use that site.

Unless I'm missing something, going to a different page on the same domain of the operator can save you a little less than £16.00.

I love trains (I'm a member of this site!) but I think the prices in the UK (I'm not from here) are a rip-off. I would never have paid £59.00 for a trip to the airport; that costs more than my plane ticket!

I was looking to take my partner to Edinburgh. I would love to have taken a train there. I check the fares on East Coast's website and wow! An April 6, 2012 weekend return ticket for only £390! (I hope I missing something here)

In the end, I only chose the £43 fare over the bus only because it was "only" a £15 difference and it satisfies my enthusiasm for rail.

Yes. Advance fares for that date are expected to go on sale tomorrow.
