Ormskirk station is a cross-platform interchange between Merseyrail services from Liverpool Central and Northern Trains services from Preston.

Knot Mill and Deansgate (now just Deansgate) station was also opened on 20th July 1849 by the Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway (MSJAR).

Aldershot station is on the Alton Line, which leaves the South Western Main Line at Pirbright Junction, to the west of Brookwood station.

James Robb Scott (1882 – 1965) was the Chief Architect of the Southern Railway, and designed both Malden Manor and Horsham stations in 1938.

Carshalton is on the Thameslink route from St Albans City to Sutton; one of the other stations on that route is Elstree & Borehamwood.

Among others, Plumstead has two trains per hour to Barnehurst; these return to London Cannon Street via Bexleyheath.

Until the early 1980s, it was possible to catch a direct express train to the coast from Sutton to Bognor Regis, Chichester or Portsmouth. Since the mid-1980s, these express services have been routed via East Croydon in order to serve Gatwick Airport.
